Default Historically attributed S&W Model 3s at Rock Island Auction Feb. 14-17

Over the next year or so, I'll be selling most of my collection through Rock Island Auction. About 60 of my Smith & Wessons (plus about 60 of my serial number one guns) will be in the Dec. 9-11 Premiere Auction.
This link should take you to a list of most of the Smiths (mostly Model 3's):
Auction Catalog 87 | Rock Island Auction

Just click on the title or photo at that page to go to a full catalog description of the gun. Do a search for "Supica" on that RIA page if you want to see all my guns in the sale.

Here's a link to my Twelve Revolvers set Number One in the same auction:
Number "1" Smith & Wesson "The Twelve Revolvers" Set with Boxes | Rock Island Auction.

In This Auction:

* Theodore Roosevelt's New Mod. #3

* Gen. Leonard Wood's .44 DA - one of several historically attributed or inscribed revolvers in the sale.

* Young factory engraved panel scene New Mod. #3

* Schofield serial number one (part of my s/n 1 collection)

* Gustave Young engraved international exhibition American (one of several factory or New York engraved Model 3s in the auction.)

Many of these have been displayed at national firearms museums and been featured as illustrations in various books and on TV shows. I've delighted in owning them for decades. Now it's someone else's turn! -- Jim

btw, about three of the Smiths in the RIA catalog link above are from other consigners, but they come up on the search.

Default Direct links to pix & description of Supica's S&Ws at Rock Island

Below are links to individual listings of the Smith & Wessons from my personal collection that will be selling in the Dec. 9-11 Rock Island Premier Auction. Some of the photography is spectacular, and several descriptions are very engaging, especially on the engraved and historically attributed guns. I'll put 3 asterisks (***) by my personal favorites. Most are Model 3s (Americans, Russians, Schofields, New Mod. #3s, .44 DAs and related models) but there are also a few more recent Smiths from my serial number one collection. You can bid online, by phone, by mail, or in person.

Default Model 3 rarities at RIA Feb. 14-17 auction

I've always been a fan of rare variations and oddities. Several from my personal collection will be sold at Rock Island Auction's Feb. 14-17 auction. Some of these are simply a scarce chambering or barrel length, while others push the envelope of "weird." A list follows the pictures below - click on the lot numbers there to go to RIA's photos & descriptions.

Lot 312 - REVOLVING RIFLE - Desirable and Documented Smith & Wesson 320 Revolving Rifle with Rare 20 Inch Barrel and Stock - s/n 370

Lot 313 - US MD NEW MOD #3 - Rare "U.S" Maryland Militia Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver - s/n 7399 - A very rare US Martial.

Lot 315 - NEW MOD #3 FRONTIER, S/N 3 - Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Frontier Model Serial Number "3" Single Action Revolver with Pearl Grips, Case, and Factory Letter - s/n 3. Model is not that rare, but I thought it was fun to have a Model 3 with serial number 3.

Lot 317 - NEW MOD. #3 CONVERTED TO .22 - Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 .22 Converted Single Action Target Revolver - s/n 118

Lot 318 - DOUBLE BARREL RUSSIAN - .22 & .44 - Documented Unusual Smith & Wesson Russian Model Single Action Revolver with Superposed .22 RF Barrel - s/n 38214. Did I mention that I like oddities?

Lot 2383 - RARE SHORT BARREL REVOLVING RIFLE HANDGUN - Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle in handgun configuration - s/n 971. Very interesting gun. Note the underside of the barrel shaped for the revolving rifle forend. A couple other "revolving rifle handguns" have been reported with serial number very close to this one (sequential?) My understanding is that the question of their origin has never been fully resolved, and that there's research still needed.

Lot 2388 - RARE CONFIGURATION BRITISH SHIPPED NEW MOD #3 - Birmingham Shipped Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver in .455 MK II with Target Sights, Rare 7 1/2 Inch Barrel and Factory Letter - s/n 33831

Lot 2391 - BRIT PROOFED .44 DA - London Shipped Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Revolver with Factory Letter - s/n 31301

Lot 2392 - RUSSIAN MODEL COPY - Unknown Copy of a Smith & Wesson 3rd Model Russian Single Action Revolver - s/n NSN

Lot 2394 - .450 BOXER NEW MOD #3 - Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver in Rare .450 Boxer with Target Sights - s/n 35243

Lot 2397 - CUT FOR STOCK RUSSIAN - Smith & Wesson 2nd Model Russian Single Action Revolver Cut for Shoulder Stock - s/n 37424

Lot 4358 - RARE SHOULDER STOCKED AMERICAN - Documented Smith & Wesson Number 3 American 2nd Model Single Action Revolver with Rare Detachable Stock - s/n 25907. The American Model with a detachable stock is significantly more rare than the Revolving Rifle or Stocked New Model #3.

Lot 4359 - CYRILLIC 1ST RUSSIAN - Rare Cyrillic Marked Russian Contract Smith & Wesson 1st Model Russian Single Action Revolver - s/n 16214

Lot 4361 - RARE CALIBER NEW MOD #3 - Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver in .32-44 with Target Sights and Factory Letter. Although a common chambering for the Target Model, this caliber is very rare in the standard model - s/n 27957

Lot 4369 - FRANKENGUN REVOLVING RIFLE HANDGUN - Unusual Assembled Smith & Wesson Model 320 Revolving Rifle with Factory Letter - s/n 819. This one is SUCH a weirdo. Revolving Rifle frame ("open" in factory records), .44 DA barrel & cylinder, Russian style triggerguard, and chambered for .44 American fer-cryin-out-loud. You figger it out, I can't.

Lot 4371 - CHOBERT NEW MOD #3, RARE SIGHTS- Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver with Rare "Combat Target Sight" and French Retailer Marking - s/n 20869

Lot 6268 - RAREST S&W PRODUCTION MODEL - Rare Smith & Wesson .38 Winchester New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver with Factory Letter - s/n 18

Lot 6269 - SCARCE SHORT BARREL NEW MOD #3 - Documented Smith & Wesson New Model Number 3 Single Action Revolver with 5 Inch Barrel and Factory Letter - s/n 23985

... and here's a link to all my Model 3's that will be in this auction: https://www.gunheritage.com/s-w-mod-3s
