Default I just mailed out my $100.00 for Historical Foundation

I feel Great because I just took a step to join the SWHF. I think what they are doing is awesome. It is something that I would even enjoy helping with if I could, as far as digitizing the records. But if the best I can do is to donate some money, it is something that I will enjoy being a part of and the $100.00 is being invested in a part of history the way I look at it.

I also just mailed out my S & W Letter Of Authenticity Request Form for my 38 Special. I am having a blast at this site and can't wait to find out some information about this family heirloom.

1. Become obsessed with fine S&Ws. This is actually the first step.

2. Read up on them. Google 'em on the Internet.

3. Shop for a good one until you're blue in the face. Gun shows, the Internet, gun stores, pawn shops.

4. Finally give in to temptation and buy one.

5. Join the S&W forum.

6. Photograph your gun to share its beauty with others on the forum.

7. Find a copy of the Third edition, Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. A whole new world is opened to you.

8. Realize that there are more S&W guns out there than you have money to buy.

9. Try to buy all of them in spite of that.

10. Join the S&WCA to associate with other addicts.

11. Join the S&W Historical Foundation.

12. Go to as many S&WCA annual get-togethers as you can, if only to drool over the many goodies.

These are not necessarily in order (other than #1), but you get the drift. I think you are well on the way, pard.

Not at all, especially as an SWHF member . One of the moderators will move it if they think it needs to move.

Nope - my military hitch was years earlier. I came to El Paso to be the Human Resources Director at a large electronics division that operated out of three states and two countries. I later ran an executive search firm in El Paso for 11 years before returning to my home state in Arizona.

As I said, I think you're well on your way with the "12 steps!"

John hit it on the head with ...

8. Realize that there are more S&W guns out there than you have money to buy.

9. Try to buy all of them in spite of that.

... I just need ONE more !?!

Bob,

It is a real bargain in the gun document world. One time membership fee for life, ( you can donate more at anytime ) and they are slowly adding more and more years of production. The ordering process in the early twentieth century was so personal. Smith and Wesson kept a lot of that correspondence.
Good luck with your new addiction, at least there are a few folks around here that can share your pain... I have no regrets owning up to mine.

" Grant me the serenity to accept the guns I can only look at,

The courage to buy only what I can afford,

And the wisdom to know the difference "

Happy hunting,

Yeah davegarage, I love this site because it is full service. Any advice that you need for any aspect of your weapon is available, people are so kind in helping you get addicted that they don't even seem to think twice about getting you in deeper. This site is so helpful, that at some point, they will probably offer free counceling and rehab........................................... Nahhhh probably not.

Well, I haven’t become a member of either yet, but I can meet 1 through 9 of PALADIN’s steps. Problem is, I’m more of an un-themed accumulator than a collector.

This is an expensive $100 membership.

Because I only had one specific revolver that fit the time frame of the current records project, I had to go and buy another revolver in order to justify the membership fee. I suppose there will be more such "requirements" in the future....

and so it goes.....

RayB,

I'm a newbie with a couple of years of s&w under my belt. I think your doing a good thing by joining for $100.

Quite a list there paladin. Looks interesting.

Speaking from personal experience...yes, it probably will, although the degree of your obsession will vary in proportion to the size of your bank account and credit rating.

It's very simple. You have your main job to support your life and your family. Then you get a second job to support your S&W habit. That way you don't take anything away from your family but still get to support what becomes your second family.
