Default What's a fellow have to do...

to be allowed to troll through the Historical Foundation's database? I don't necessarily need to find anything, I just want a glimpse into the past through letters and correspondence.

After my first experience with the SWHF's kind and helpful people sending me 5 delightful pages about my gun, I must say I'm mad at myself for not realizing exactly what is going on there sooner and sending my money.

I do have a question: is there any possibility that some day the database will be available to the public? Or do the personal records that are contained in there need to be kept private?

Is it maybe an end goal to make the records available through a company such as Google for the public to search?

After the little tastes I have seen of the documents you have been coming up with on Registered magnums I could see myself spending my off time just browsing through the records, reading polite letters about broken shell extractors and re-blues.

Someday, and I don't know when, the records we are digitizing and indexing will be available to members on line. That is one of our long term objectives.

I've had several guns researched by Bill Cross in the S&WHF files. He has found that the information is hard to find, it takes many searches using many key words to find information.
Bill tried to find information on KC PD purchases and until the name of the area rep was entered no info was found.
When and if we get access be prepared to spend a lot of time doing your search.

Thank you very much Bill, that's going to be a fun day I expect.

With that many records I expect so. The thing of it is that with more eyes on the data too there will probably be some pretty interesting little tidbits that get surfaced as people look for other things.

That's mostly why I was curious about broader access to the data being an end goal.
