Default Paying your dues from outside the USA

Apologies if this has been covered before and I just haven't seen it, but can anybody possibly help me with this one, please?

I was hoping to get a factory letter for my first S&W recently added to my antique collection over here in Britain, and also wanted to join the SWHF as a member. My problem is that my che(ck)ques are denominated in GBP and according to my local Post Office, they gave up on international money orders when the Royal Mail was sliced up and part-privatised (!).

Does anybody happen to know if there are any other ways? I have done a lot with folk both in the US and the rest of the world with PayPal (damn useful American invention, I believe), so I was hoping that might be an option, but so far I haven't been able to get a response to my queries direct to the email on the SWHF site - [email protected] - so I'm wondering if I've got the wrong address somehow? I've tried a couple of times since the back end of August since the guys at S&W directed me there re. the letter, but to no avail.

I'm not grumbling, you understand; I would never have found out about this place, nor all the super knowledgeable and helpful people to be found here otherwise.

Any help/thoughts, gratefully received.
Thanks.

Send a PM to Doc44 . He is on the board there and can guide you along.

Good luck, and thanks for supporting the organization!

Hi. I just checked my email and did not find one from you. You might try again. I do travel quite a bit so I can't always get right back to you-I use my phone for my communication and my tired ol' eyes don't read attachments well anymore. We have plans to do some FAQs on the sight to give you some time frames and additional instructions. We don't do PayPal or credit cards at this time. Your bank may be able to help with an international money order. I'm sorry that this isn't much help!

Hi, and thanks for the info.

Sadly I've spoken with my bank and the Royal Mail/Post Office - who tell me that over-the-counter money orders went a long time back (actually I do remember using them to send payments to the US , long, long ago before them new-fangled credit cards things came along!), so I'm at a bit of a loss. The best they can do is some kind of mega-banko-madness designed around large payments via partner banks and goodness knows what else (I largely lost the will to live listening after the first couple of minutes of the explanation) for which the fee is apparently roughly twice the cost of the letter & society membership combined (!) So keen as I am to find out the story behind my S&W, I'm not THAT keen....

I'll investigate further, and in the meantime pre-order the new Standard Catalogue which might help me a little in the quest.

Thanks again for letting me know how things stand.
