I assume you want a letter of authenticity for your S&W firearm that will confirm its features and state where and when it was shipped. Go to swhf and click on Information Request and Letter Process and then on Letter of Authenticity Request Form to bring up a PDF file of the letter request form. Print the form and follow the instructions to obtain your your letter.

Yes, just like before , the letters I always used to get.

There are two forms I printed:

One form is S&W HF Letter of Authenticity Request Form with maximum 3 request per week (?)

The other is Request for Firearm Research . This for at the bottom says that , factory letter is required to do any kind of research (???)

I am a bit lost here. I would like a letter on my FBI 1076. Do I need to fill out and send in both forms? Or first get Authenticity letter and then send it to do research ?

The letter of authenticity request is the one you need to do first. The second form is for a search of the SWHF archives for additional information.
whether or no you request the search will depend on what you find out in your letter of authenticity. The SWHF indexed archives primarily cover the 1930's but is expanding. If your guns is fro the teens or the 50's for example, they are not likely to have any additional info.

Good luck on your research.

The Letter of Authenticity Request is what you need to send in. Your 1076 is too new to be researched by the Historical Foundation. You will receive a factory letter on your 1076 and that is what you want. You can throw the other request away.

This thread answered the same question for me. However, the revolver I want to letter is a .38/44 Heavy Duty that I believe dates to 1935. Once I get the factory letter, is there an additional fee for the additional information? Is there a way to know if additional information should be requested? Were guns more special order or individual/personalized orders back then rather than, like today, big box store sales?
