Default Books about Smith & Wesson

as an avid reader I've been on the lookout for books about S&W. So far I've got the SCSW, the Gun Digest book of Smith & Wesson, the History of Smith & Wesson by Jinks, and the History of Smith & Wesson Firearms by Boorman. Are there any others I'm missing?

You have the two most important books already(the Boorman book not so much but nice pics). Another good one is Images of America Smith & Wesson by Jinks and Krein(Amazon). Although not a book, The History Channel's DVD The Guns of Smith & Wesson is quite interesting(eBay). Another good DVD is The Official History of Smith & Wesson(American Gunsmithing Institute).

After the above you get into specialized areas and early history where stuff can be hard to find and pricey in some cases.

I've got the History Channel DVD, and I've seen the "Images" book on Amazon, so I'll have to pick that up as well as look for the other DVD. Thanks for the info.

There are three more S&W books I can think of.

1. Smith & Wesson 1857-1945. A Handbook for Collectors by Robert Neal & Roy Jinks. ISBN 1-884849-19-9

2. Smith & Wesson Revolvers. The Pioneer Single Action Models by John Parsons. Circa 1957

3. Smith & Wesson Handguns by Roy McHenry & Walter Roper. Circa 1945

4. Smith & Wesson "The Story of the Revolver" by Carl Hellstrom. Corywrite 1953.

If you can find a used copy of this book, it is one of the most authorative and extensive books on the M&P and other K- Frames (model 1905, pre model 10, etc) that I've laid eyes on.

America’s right arm : the Smith and Wesson military and police revolver By John Henword.

It was published in 1997 and is out of print.. I was able to contact the author about 5 years ago, as he's local to the SF Bay Area, and he had copies available.

I understand that he recently passed away, but his wife still has copies.

Here is the last known contact info:

America's right arm (Open Library)

For what it is worth, I just received a letter from John Henwood's wife and she no longer has any copies of this book. I was able to locate and order a copy from a lead she provided but they only had that one copy left. From what I have heard, only around 500 copies were printed.

Hope this helps.

A bit pricey at $80... but here's one:

IDSA BOOKS LLC: AMERICA'S RIGHT ARM, THE SMITH & WESSON MILITARY AND POLICE REVOLVER. by Henwood, John.

Also... another suggestion for a video... from AGI, a 2 DVD set of an exclusive interview with Roy Jinks about S&W history:

AGI - A History of Smith & Wesson: an Interview with Roy Jinks

Probably the rarest "S&W
book" is the large size paperback book showing Roy Jinks' S&W collection, in beautiful color that was printed in Japan about 20+ years ago. A team from the Japanese publisher came to Roy's house and made some arrangements to photo his collection for a book. The photos were taken outdoors of all the guns and there is some shade and shadow issues cast by the way the guns were posed in the bright sun, but it is still an interesting book. Now the downside is that it is printed in Japanese. The publisher did the same for Colt's, Winchesters, Military guns, Police guns, etc. in a series of printings, all aimed at the Japanese market for gun lovers who could not own guns, as they are illegal to own in Japan by ordinary citizens. Now having said all that, I and Alan Dash imported all the issues we could locate in Japan, which was less than 2 dozen copies. The last open sale I know of was at the S&WCA annual meeting auction about 10 yrs ago, for $800 for a copy.( I gave away free copies to my friends when I first got a shipment of about 6 copies, as my cost was about $5 a copy then.)
