Default s&w scrimshaw

I would like any information on the s&w scrimshaw collector series knives. How many in the collection? Some are marked on the blade, scrimshaw series, some first production run, some first millennium run, are these all separate collections? If so how many in each collection. I have several of these knives and would like to put together the whole set, or sets. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Forum. It can be a little tricky to put together a correct "factory" set of these knives, as not all scrimshawed S&W knives were factory authorized. There are eight factory knives , Eagle, Bear, Deer, Buffalo, Turkey,Wolf, Covered Bridge and Country Mill, all hand etched from designs by scrimshander Pam Essex, in the 1990s. They were sold as sets, or individually and some with matching scrimshawed belt buckles. Original prices were around $20 to $40, depending on which set, etc. You will see them on Ebay every so often. The S&W Knife catalogs of the mid 1990s will show you the complete assembly, etc. Ed.

In my opinion, the blade markings on many of the different S&W knives made by Taylor Cutlery Co, S&W's licensed knife maker, were and still are just marketing techniques. I've never seen are real value fluctuations in the these knives due to the blade markings, and beware that Taylor made many different knives with S&W logos, blade changes and other differences that were never accepted by the factory as cataloged S&W knives, so there are lots of S&W marked knives in the secondary market that were not S&W authorized knives. Ed.
