S&W catalog reproduction - date of original?
Hello
I came across this catalog reprint on Saturday at the gunshow at the Big E in Springfield. It is clearly a reprint, reproduced by a company called Jayco in 1962. My question is, what was the date of the catalog it represents? I have not found a date anywhere inside it. The most recent firearm in the catalog is the Model 1899. The catalog measures 9 1/2" X 6 5/8" and there are 68 numbered pages. It is full of all sorts of interesting information.
I have scanned the front cover.
Thanks

DJ, That is the 1900 era catalog. See page 383, SCSW, 3rd edit. for a description of the original catalogs. Jayco was a printing company in CA. owned by Jay Herold. Jay was a good friend of mine and an old time S&W Collector, long deceased. He often displayed his collection at the old Sahara gun shows in Las Vegas in the 60s. He was one of the first printers to produce copies of the old S&W catalogs, printing them on quality paper, very similar to the originals. Jay obtained the permission of S&W to reprint these catalogs. They were marked with the Jayco name and dated on the back pages. After he died, surplus copies of his catalogs were obtained by the Personal Firearms Record Book Co., Park Ridge, Ill. and are overstamped with their name and date 1972. Ed.

DJ, You're welcome. Jay Herold printed aout 1/2 doz. different replicas of old S&W catalogs, however I seldom see them at gun shows anymore. Actually they may be rarer than the originals, as probably the number printed was less than the number printed by S&W originally. I had a small supply and over the years I donated copies to the auctions at our annual S&WCA meetings, where they brought fairly high prices. Ed

A very old thread, I realize, but helpful to me as I was looking for the original date of this same catalog. My reproduction says it was "Reprinted in Canada for INFO-ARM," which is listed at an address in Champlain, New York.
