please help me to identify this S&W knife (photo)
Hello all,
I'm a knifecollector from Holland, and would like to identify the knife (see picture). It appears to be a somewhat older model knife (the way the S&W text is written on the blade) and the handle appears to be made of G10.
Any help is much appreciated!

timtico, Welcome to the Forum. Can you give us more information on the knife. Length? Type? All markings and stampings, and where they are on the knife? More pictures & measurements? Is there a "China" stamp anywhere on the knife? Or any makers name, like "Taylor Cutlery?" I do not find a picture of any similar S&W knife in any of the factory knife catalogs, however Taylor, the company that is licensed to make & sell S&W marked knives, make 1,000 of different designs for S&W to select. Most of them are not accepted by S&W for sale through the factory catalog, so the unselected ones are sold through discount knife dealers, putting 1,000 of knives in the hands of the public that are not S&W "authorized" knives. Very confusing to collectors, and on top of that S&W factory personnel in charge of licensing products, like knives, over the years have often changed and records of what was authorized were discarded, etc. making it very difficult to prove, or disprove, the authenticity of any individual knife. Ed.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The knife is a screenshot from a televisionprogram (Dexter). Indeed I was not able to identify the knife either browsing the catalogues. It could be a non-authorized "fake", and is used in that particular program.
Do you have a good resource where i can get older S&W knife catalogues?

I suspect the knife in your photo is one of the many knives made by a vendor for submittal to S&W, and it was not selected for authorized S&W sales. Probably made by Taylor Cutlery. Sometimes the knife catalogs will show up on Ebay, but the the only other sources are (1) attend the annual meetings of the S&W Collectors Assoc., as a member. Old S&W paper & catalogs are always for sale there, (2) Run a wanted ad here on the Forum. Knife catalogs are much harder to find than the gun & accessory catalogs. You can also get your name on the mailing list for free catalogs from the various knife dealers, such as Smokey Mountains Knife Works, etc. They will have dozens of S&W knife models shown. Usually over runs from Taylor Cutlery. As you build up your files of these over time, identifying S&W knife models becomes easier. Good Luck, Ed.

Just for reference, it appears to be a S&W California issue auto. Something which I was almost able to read on the blade itself. There is a whole topic about this on bladeforums
Unfortunately the knife is discontinued and hard to obtain, any suggestions are welcome
