Default "Other" S&W Knives

How do the Chinese manufactured knives from Taylor Brands, LLC which are labeled "Official Licensee of Smith & Wesson" fit into the whole scheme of things? I got a "S&W SS Shooter Knife, Non-Serrated" from one of the big distributors. It appears to be all stainless except for the golden colored S&W logo, about like a pistol grip monogram which is affixed to one side near the hinge. There are Smith & Wesson logos all over the box, the warrenty/ instruction sheet and the knife itself, so I assume they must have been at least approved by S&W, but what is the real connection?

The "whole scheme of things' is that Taylor is a S&W licensee to produce knives with the S&W logo, etc. However this effort has resulted in a flood of such knives in the market, some of which were not selected by S&W management for official S&W distribution, although they carry the S&W markings. Taylor submits multiple knife styles to S&W for selection of approved knives. Many of the knives not selected, then make their way to the aftermarket distributors. A serious collector of S&W approved knives faces a real challenge in ferreting out "real" S&W knives from the many variations on the market, as frequent personnel changes in the licensing unit at S&W over the last few years ,with no emphasis on record keeping, leaves authentication as a perilous exercise. Me too!!

I bought it off the S&W web site several years ago, just before they were discontinued.

I've carried it daily ever since. Mine has a small S&W log on the pocket clip along with Stewart A. Taylor and Sons. The blade is marked Smith & Wesson U.S.A.

One of the most usefull knives I've ever owed.

Mine looks just like that, JH, but it has no pocket clip nor provision for one. It rides in my briefcase.
