Default Ka Bar style knifes

I picked up a S&W search and rescue Ka Bar style knife. It is a great knife and was only $25. Not a collectable or anything but a good knife. It sharpened to a razor edge and holds it, and seems to be a quality product. I will buy another and probably several others.

Default A K-Bar is a K-Bar, It's not a knife.

A K-bar style and a K-bar are 2 different things. A B-bar isn't just a knife, it is a tool. I have owned 1 K-bar for over 40 years. My K-bar has cut wire, opened cans, cut C-4. Make soles for boots out or truck tires split kindling, gutted deer, moose, cut fingers and arms (not mind). My K-bar was issued to me in 1968, it is the constant in my life besides my wife. I wouldn't give either one up. My K-bar holds and edge better the most any other knife on the market.

I hear ya on the KaBar.. guess I was 19 when i traded in my kid hunting knife for a Ka-Bar. Kabar traveled with me for awhile and then on the advice of friends traded it in for the Buck General 120. Wish Ida kept that KaBar, in hindsight. Oh, I got 40 years out of the Buck, no sweat. When the Buck went awol a year ago, I picked up a vintage Camillus in almost new condition- "Carried a lot, rarely used" the owner told me. Other that the color of the grip, and the name on the ricasso, dead-ringer for the KaBar. Couldnt help myself tho, loved that old Buck so much I HAD to get another. Went and bought a remake of the Buck 124 Frontiersman. Anything by KaBar will do you fine... some like Ford and some like Chevies...

If you want the real deal, K-Bar that is, you need to hurry. They are being replaced in the USMC inventory and now being surplused out.

I like the KaBar style blade for all of the above mentioned reasons however I decided to upgrade their leather handle and sheath.

Victory .38 S&W included for S&W thread content.

The new USMC bayonet/knife will see the most use. All riflemen will be issued one. I am sure the K-Bar will still be used, there are going to be people who belive the bayonet is a bayonet and a fighting/utility knife is a different blade.

I agree with the love shown here for the Buck Model 120. The shorter Model 119 is also good, and the best knife at a reasonable price.

For a lot more money, look at the Randall Models 1, 5, and 14. The Fallkniven Model A-1 is also a very superior knife. All of these knives (not "knifes" ) will do well by you.

Remember, "knife" works like "wife." The plurals are "knives" and "wives." I'm surprised and troubled by how often this error occurs on gun boards.
