Default Am I Becoming a Hoarder?

I loved the S&W finger grooved combat grips since they came out and had scoured the gun shows for them since when they sold for $5 as take-offs.

Though having sold a lot of them, I kept a few of my better FGC for the SB K-frames that are not mounted on guns.

Those FGC have always intrigued me, even though their quality and fit to the gun is not spectacular but they do fit my hand pretty well. Well enough to be a viable alternative to Nills for me on S&W revolvers.

Who shares the love for the S&W FGC and will go out of his way to secure them?

Thumbs up

My son shares your love.

You should see how fast he finagles them from me.
He likes the dark ones most.
A couple of his.

I have a bunch of guns that came with those, mostly model 14's from 80s-90s, and Ive saved them because if I was to sell the guns , I think the original grips should go with them. They look nice , BUT I think they are the some of the most uncomfortable, odd feeling/fitting grips S&W ever made.
Except to replace them on a gun for collector/sale value I am amazed the price folks pay for them today. Bob

Calreb,

I - on the other hand - hate the feel of S&W magna and target stocks. I find them uncomfy. The round butt FGC recoil right into the base of my thumb, so that I dehorned the grips on my shooters.

The one on the 2 1/2 inch model was bought at a gunshow in Arkansas for $5 and made to fit me perfectly.

Paul,

some of my nicest grips and guns ended up in my sons' safes, too.

Like my old bowling pin gun that used to even be IDPA legal. Micki put some Nills on that I gave him in the meantime. He loves this revolver since he was a little kid and I gave it to him when he was nine years old and could hit a 9" paperplate with two moonclips at 12 yards..

"Hoarder" is such an "Ugly" word... I prefer "Enthusiast" ...besides
If you put that $5 in the bank back then what would it be worth today ?
The grips were a great investment.

The grips are just the tip of the iceberg, though...

The finger grooves just really give a 2 and a half or three inch smith personality. I hardly ever fire weapons with these grips, but when I pull that 624 three inch out, it and the fingergrooves make a statement. I keep a few extras in my "hoarding" drawer.

I don't normally like finger grooves (unless they are a set of Tyler's) but something about the square butt profile on these make for a very comfortable grip hold. S&W cut the grooves just right and I sort of wish a maker would copy the design and sell them today. They are selling at such steep prices right now but I'm keeping my set.

It is not for "personality" or looks alone that I like them, they happen to fit my hand AND look good. I have a dozen Nills that I change around on guns and they are easy enough to find and fit well. Still the FGC on square butt K-frames rule for me.

For sheer comfort on a utility gun with a round butt I have this:

Default Hmmmm?

Andyd, I was wondering if you bought the Korth just for the grips. (That is a Korth in one of your photos, is it not?)

Yeah,

I got a bunch of them and just take the grips off and throw the guns away . They come with Nills from the 24 series on.

One box does not a Hoarder make

Pull out some Rubbermaid 55 gal tubs filled with Combat Finger Groove grips and you will attract medical attention for your affliction.

That 4516 is sitting on my desk in my shop. Those wood grips are currently in a 55 gal Rubbermaid tub of wood grips.

Bought two sets in as many months, and looking for three reasonable KRB. Have need of getting a few full lug Model 14s ready to sell in case something were to happen to me. It appears someone removed the grips before I bought them. The dash seven came with goodyears, but would look much nicer with them in the box and the gun wearing the RB FCs. Guess my love for the Model 14 brought me to meet those grips. Don't much shoot with them, though.

Five bucks? You're killing me.

David,

this makes me feel better. I sometimes feel like I am drowning in little precious collectibles and feel like it is a little bit out of control.

I will organize the grips, Anschütz match sights and all my precious parts eventually.

I even have Walther KKJ rear sights and a spare front sight hood and post.

Thanks BigCityChief!

It encourages me to hold on to them and get a few more FGC. I barely ever have remorse buying guns, at least.

If you can still see the carpet, the opposite wall and walk through your house without having to turn sidways, you are not a hoarder. You may however, need to consider buying a bigger house.

Default Yes, you are a hoarder and in need of help.

  1. You are a hoarder & you have sick tendencies!
  2. In order to help alleviate your miseries, place those grips on your front porch in that same box.
  3. Send me your address and I will help you.
  4. You won't have to worry about those bad old grips anymore.

At this point I wouldn't consider you a hoarder. Since being introduced, I too have always liked the sexy look of factory combats, but there are definitely more comfortable fitting stocks available. Even at the ridiculous prices they're commanding, I still keep an eye out for a deal - $150 or less. :-) Although not factory, you can get a superior set of combats from Kurac for less than $200. I currently have two factory combats for my 629s and looking for a set of RBs for my K frame snubbies.

No, you are not a "Hoarder".
Question:
I prefer Hogue Soft Rubber Combat Grips for service and shooting.
Does this make me a "Low down, cattle rustling, Glock using Rat" ?
