Default OK knife people

I have a question. I have a S&W Black Ops knife. It is spring loaded, self opening by pushing a little lever on top. Is this or is this not a switchblade? Why or why not. Thanks

Different states may have different laws so check with local law enforcement. I have read stories about them that state they are not automatics. I have a Ken Onion Speedsafe folder that operates this way. They are cool knives. Some states may consider them automatics, but I think they are ok in most areas.

It's up to the individual state. I carry a Kershaw Leek, a Ken Onion design "assisted opening". IL has no problem with them, but just across the river in MO I'm told it is considered a switchblade.

Some cities in Texas have ordinances against a lock blade, but no specific ones against assisted opening. Go figure. It requires some specific research

Bottom line is, you don't need knife help, you need legal help.
What does the law say in VA?
That's what you need help with.

Switchblades are legal in MO. Check knife rights. Org.

Thanks for all the responses. I was just curious about why the police and prosecutor in Baltimore had such a hard time agreeing on what a legal knife was.
