Vintage SAT
Hello S&W enthusiasts,
I found a couple of SAT at vintage gun shop today. Didn’t know anything about these until I got home and did a google search. It appears that these are very collectible. The one in black oxide seems to have plenty of info on but the nickel with 7 rows not so much. If anyone has additional info please respond.
Thanks

The 7 row pre-war SAT you have is the type that was shipped with RMs/NRMs, for example, and is valued in the $500 - $600 range. An example of a gun shipped with the 9 row post war knurled SAT, which is valued in the $125 + or - range, would be the Model of 1950 Pre-Model 27’s.

I bought a nice one of those off of eBay for my .357 Magnum Post War Transitional about 15 months ago for $125. I think you can maybe do a little better if you’re not in a hurry and shop around - in fact I would also say that about both of the prices I quoted above.

Terry, if I could bug you a bit, what would be the ~value of the post war aluminum tapered tip. It came with a M29 I bought, used in the late 70s/early 80s and was forgotten in a range bag when I sold the 29 some years later. I'm sure it isn't rare by any stretch, but I am curious.
Thanks so much
Rob

Some of the cheaper ones can be priceless. There was a man at the range one day who saw my SAT while I was using it. A little later, he asked if he could try it on something. While using it, we talked a bit. It seems he and his men didn't have a proper issued tool to take care of one situation, but my little SAT worked perfectly. He asked where to buy one at. I , to his disbelief, told him he could have that one for himself and his men. "Are you sure? This is a nice tool." Told him to see to it all his guys could use it when needed and it was my pleasure to help.
It was one of the last two on the right, but the giving and receiving were almost priceless. He thanked me and offered to pay for it. I told him it had found its new home and to just take good care of it.
