I remember seeing those at the SHOT show many years ago
Another of those things that we wish we had bought when they were easily available

I recall when those were being advertised. I don't think they were on the market very long.

If I start now, I might get there! I won't be able to haul the stuff from Roy's stash.

Wouldn't that be a 2" 38 Safety Hammerless with an inside the pocket holster?

They weren't for personal exercise or clothes racks, although some were bought and used for that purpose. They were advertised in "Police Chief" & other LE magazines for alternative patrol. They were a little too early as bike patrol didn't catch on until a bit later, at least in my part of the country.

Saw em advertised in police rags and perhaps the Galls catalog. Don’t know of any department that fell for it. Advertising gimmick. Cool, but cheap bikes with cheap components. Kinda like Harley Davidson Beer, it’s more of a man-cave collectible.

I am the Assistant Historian, Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation. I don't make up letters, I only put down what the records say.

The fact that it was owned by Mr . Jinks is cool factor enough for most on this forum anyway. Ride with pride. Thanks for posting .

Actually, I was the western regional sales manager when S&W came out with these bikes. They used good quality components and a lot of thought into the construction. They were built right in the plant by some very conscientious guys . The problem was that all the components were bought from outside vendors and the cost to build the bikes was too high to be profitable or competitive with other well know brands. I did sell them to several major agencies and they were all very pleased with the performance. Boeing Aircraft bought a bunch of them for their security guys and the last time I was there (2008) they indicated they still had a few. I still have my two samples and the wife and I ride them all over Idaho. They have a lot of miles on them.

Sometime around 1998/ 2000 or so the dept armory sold back enough revolvers to S/W to acquire 80,000 or so in store credit. Nice 20-30 year old model 15s,67s, and even a few model 18s some anib. We in the armory started thinking about all the cool stuff we could now acquire from S/W. Some of us got sent to the S/W Academy for training and that was fun, but the majority of the money was used up by our supervisors to gather favor with higher ups by purchasing surveillance equipment and especially BICYCLES for the newest brainchild of somebody. We had a good laugh(after the cry of course). I guess you only need so many hammers, punches and files...

.
I managed the S&W store in Orlando, when they started these also, they were still assembling them at the factory in 2000 when I was a RSM on the east coast. couple of small depts bought them for some bike squads, of course, some other depts had "rollerblade" squads for downtown patrol also. I had one for a while, pretty good bike, but priced more for a govt purchase, as apposed to a retail item. S&W never could get a grasp on doing "licensed" items. The way that dept was run, was a huge joke.

Paint it black. Then it would be a full automatic semi-automatic assault bicycle.
