Default Genuine Smith & Wesson « Tyler T-grip *

Hi,

I don’t know where to post this so I hope I’m in the good section.

A few days ago I found on internet a Smith & Wesson Tyler T grip (I think it’s the good name) for sale for less than 10$.
The seller didn’t know for which frame it was so at this price I decided to take the risk, moreover we can’t find Tyler T grips here.

I received it today, it’s a black rubber Tyler T grip with the old S&W logo on the left side.
I made some research on internet but I didn’t find a genuine S&W Tyler T grip so I’m curious to know which model it was made for ?
I think maybe it was made for a round butt frame.
BTW, it fits my model of 1905 Target square butt and I’m happy with the result.

Yes I know, I don’t have the original grips but I’m still hoping to find them one day and I really love the contrast with this ivory copy.

These grip adapters were made in 3 sizes. Small ( for J frames ) , Medium (for K frames) and large ( for N frames ) and came in a small white boxes from S&W , labeled Small, Medium & Large. From your photo is appears you have the medium K frame size. They were made for S&W Tyler. Ed.

I don't believe these were made by Tyler.

I believe either Mershom or Pachmayer made them but someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Either way that is a good price for it.

Thank you.
Unfortunately I don’t have the box.
I’m a little confused though, when you say it was made for S&W Tyler Ed. I guess you mean Tyler made them for S&W like Hogue made rubber grips for S&W right ?

Thanks

Here are both Smith & Wesson and Tyler Grip Adapters. I put in the 1930's Grip Adapter just for comparison.

FWIW, the large is too big for an N frame. The large fits the K frame.

Go figure.

It is a Pach.

The Pachs were made in several sizes for some given frame sizes. A medium might fit a K frame gun, but then so would the proper large size K frame grip adaptor, yet neither would fit an N frame. Makes sense once you understand the thought behind it.

^^^ Yes, that is my understanding. Pachmayr took over production from Mershom.

BTW, that is a nice looking setup with those grips and that adapter, no matter who made them!

I've never seen a S&W branded one but that sure looks like the Pachmayr grip adapters I've had.

Tylers were always metal as far as I know. Pachmayr black plastic.

To help illustrate my point, here are two Pachmayr grip adapters for Colt E/I frame guns (Army Special, Official Police, 3 5 7, Python, etc). One is a medium, and the other is a large. If you look closely, you can see that there is a slight difference in size.

Default The simplest is best plan

To make things easy I would just buy one of every S&W, then see which one it fits. Don't show this to my wife.

I think I may have misspoke when I said "Tyler." The more I think about it, I seem to recall info somewhere in my files that indicated the S&W logoed grip adapters where made by Pachmayr for S&W. Ed.

Thumbs up GRIP ADAPTERS

Looks exactly like the one I found in my stash and installed on my 1937 M&P. Works great for me.

I use mostly Tyler grip adapters on my Smiths with the exception of a S&W marked plastic adapter on a J frame Smith. Also have a couple of those small white S&W grip adapter boxes and some Pachmayr and Grishom grip adapters, unsure if any are marked S&W.
