Guns & Ammo 1991 “New” S&Ws Hi-Tech PC
I had bought this magazine a few years ago on an auction sight not knowing what I had then. The common “Smith & Wesson Performance Center” search lead it to me. I saw the hunter and had to have it. It’s been tucked away until I remembered I had it. WOW! The things I didn’t know just a few years ago. Enjoy!

How is it possible that someone can forget that they have a gun?

No, sorry, I don’t own any of the guns pictures. Just the magazine and the wonderful article about the Performance Center.

There was a similar write-up in Shooting Times in Apr-1990.

It's funny they mention "Indy Car" and "street-legal."
When I first started collecting it was more of the standard S&W models. Then, I started collecting limited standard models. Once I found out about the Performance Center, I needed to sell some of these standard models to buy the PC models. I would use the phase, "I'm selling or trading my Chevys to get Cadillacs."

Piece of Machinery
I like who the author describes how the the products from PC are created. Bottom left paragraph, post #2, attachment #4.
"The Performance Center gunsmith's are fitting up a precision piece of machinery, they are not modifying or altering parts in order to make things fit."

The other day I pulled a beautiful K22 Outdoorsman out of the safe while looking for something else. I wondered where it came from because I did not remember I had bought it. I don't have as many as some of you, and I would be hard pressed to name them all from memory.
No PC guns for me, too much of a traditionalist where my Smith & Wessons are concerned. Thanks to the OP for sharing the article.

I respect that position, but I would also love to be right there on the scene where you compared your absolute finest Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistols to a couple of my PC guns. I would be interested in your observations in handling them and inspecting them with a detailed eye... and then shooting them.
I'm speaking on the pistol side, not the revolvers.

Interestingly, the only Smith & Wesson semis i still have are two 39-2s and a 3913. I had a 645 and sold it, had a 4053 and sold it, had a CS40, and sold it... did not like the trigger on tje 645, and never really warmed up to the 40s....I only shoot one of the 39s, the other is unfired. I like the 39, a lot...the 3913 is nice, but.....i am not crazy about its trigger either. In the end you may be right. Lets meet somewhere and shoot, then you cam see my response...

That would be fantastic! And while I love 39's (I've got three), I think just handling my 3566 Limited or 845 might have you hook, line and sinker!

I've got 4 Performance Center autos from the 1990s............
two Shorty-9s...............
a DPA 5906 and a...............
SD-9.
I have a number of other 3rd Gen autos... 3913s/14s,915s,5906,4566,6906/04s even two FrankingSmith 6915s .......... they are all good guns.....but the PC guns are in a whole different class.
The FrankenSmith 6915 is my answer to a concealed carry version of the PC SD-9; an all stainless steel 9mm with a 6906 steel frame mated to a 4.25 inch barrel and slide........ the 6915 is a alloy 6906 frame mated to a 4" 915 upper!

Hey Robert,
I am glad you posted this. I had a beautiful K22 Outdoorsman that I loaned out a few years ago and couldn't remember who I loaned it to.
Remember.....remember......sure you do.
