Default Unusual Find at the LGS Today...

Went looking for guns, found something unique that I couldn't pass up: a NIB pair of Smith and Wesson Model 90 handcuffs made sometime in the late 60s to 1979, going off of the Bangor Punta box, guessing probably towards the latter end based on the box's condition. I never considered collecting handcuffs before, however the price seemed reasonable, and these being older, and in great condition swayed me. Included were 2 keys and the original oil paper in the box.

Not sure if these count as collectibles, but I sure find them neat....

The boxes are the impressive part. Most got tossed in the trash when issued. Very nice pickup . . .

I would think mid Bangor Punta vintage as they stopped putting the metal corners on the handcuff boxes in 74 from my experience. Nice set!

Nice score.
My bride was one of the first Female officers
to actually "hit the streets" in our Department in 1975.
She ordered these before graduation from the Academy.

I tried to collect handcuffs a few times but I had to give them back! All for stupid stuff but luckily nothing that a fine and a "don't do that anymore" worked to keep my record clean. Those are some nice ones in those pictures up there...and nice boxes. Did S&W also make that little handcuff holster I see on the belts of many policemen? That would be cool, too.

Default S&W collectables

I always used Peerless but some how managed to acquire a set of S&W cuffs with a circular lock & key. Carried them for a while but went back to the Peerless.

Still have the S&W set not sure about the other one.

I still have a Blued pair of S&W cuffs from my working days. A little bit less common than the Nickel plated ones.

I've had a set of the airweight S&W cuffs for decades. I used them in plainclothes. I also had a set of personally owned ones with the circular locks I used for prisoner transport for a while. The circular ones went to a rookie I trained who liked them a lot. I wish I had them back for old times sake. I don't know if they are still made but they were secure.

BTW, I posted more info about this in the Revolvers 1961 to 1980 Thread, however I'll share a picture of it here too: I found a matching 1969 Model 28-2 with original box to go with these late 60s/early 70s cuffs yesterday....

Now my friends say I need to find the period correct duty leather to match these.

Very cool find! Although I am a hardcore fan of Peerless handcuffs, my leg irons were S&W. I used them for the big boys. It was easier than using 2-3 sets of interlocked handcuffs.

CH4, since you prefer Peerless handcuffs, here are a few Peerless handcuffs manufactured by Smith & Wesson.
I did say this was addictive!!!

I still have my S&W stainless cuffs somewhere around here. I had a blued pair as well but I gave them to a new guy when I retired. I bought them, and began carrying both pairs, after a sergeant asked me one time, "Did you ever see one guy fight?"
