I’m not very familiar with the history on them, other than what I’ve read on the forum

“They were not intended for "public" consumption. They were originally offered as "perks" to dealers to "show" their S&W handguns. I guess there was more supply than demand, so S&W sold them off. Probably not a high profit margin item considering the shipping and handling time involved.”
