Early 1980s Sportsmans series.

Blue boot knife.

Boot knife from Vermont Knives, Inc. I believe these came after S&W dropped the
Sportsman Series from their catalogs.

Series from the mid 1990s.
I thought these to be USA manufacture but the one boot knife on the right says R.O.C.

Impressive collection of knives! Seki is a city in Japan known for quality production knives, like Solingen in Germany or Sheffield in England. Very hard, if not impossible, to know which plant made it as practically all Pacific Rim production is through factors. These agents, or brokers, get the knives produced and the marketing company here often doesn't even know who the factory is or where.

The U. S. A. marked knives are probably not made in the US. Knives are commonly marked with the seller's name and location and not necessarily that of the factory. Knives are supposed to be marked with country of origin but often aren't(or marked under scales and other places it can't be seen). The Chinese and Pakistani's are particularly bad about marking knives as US made that are not.

Again, impressive collection there...Bob

That is the model 6080 heavy duty hunting knife with a 4 3/4" blade.
I bought that one in the early '80s for ?? ...todays value maybe $40 - $65.

Hello jed,
My best guess for one that hasn't been used or re-sharpened, and comes with the box and sheath would be anywhere from $65 to $110.

If bk43 stops by he might have a more informed opinion on the value as he seems to be more in touch with the knife collecting world.

Ya' know, I have no clue. The market seems to have just gone nuts the last several weeks. Recent Taylor imports that used to be $20 - $30 are now under $10. I've seen eighties USA made that were $50 - $75 now selling under $25. You don't see many of the Blackie Collins designs for sale but you could count on $100 - $125 or better in the past. There's a Collins folder on fleabay right now and it's only at $67 with a day to go. It should be $50 higher than that IMHO.

If I were jed, I'd hold on to the knife if possible. Let the market settle down and come back to where it should be.

Bob

Default 1980's sportsman series

i was just curious if you could tell me alil about the 1980's sportsman series i own the knife third down on the right (middle knife on right side with brass finger guard or pommel i think its called) it looks all the same but the blade stamping on yours is on the opposite side as mine and mine does not have the black Smith & Wesson print. the blade of my knife says Stainless close to the finger guard and is blank on
USA the other side. please tell me anything you can tell me about this knife. it was given to me by my grandfather and am curious to know more about it. - david

Welcome to the forum. The knife was produced at the S&W plant in Houlton, ME as part of the American Series. It's a light, general duty knife with a 440 steel blade and a rubber handle called the Posi-Grip handle. That knife had two stock numbers, #6085 and #330400, but I have no idea why. They were designed by Robert Ferraro.

The knives from the 1980's are good quality, well made production products. Collector interest is minimal but I'm sure that means nothing to you since your knife is a family heirloom.

Retail price in 1996 was $55.95; Dealer price was $27.95 .....I don't think there is much of a collector interest in these $30-$50.

Question

Awesome collection

I just picked up one of the 70's series knifes with sheath/no box

In the first picture it would be on the far left vertically positioned
I bought it for my son

Is that particular one worth much in very good shape?
thanks for any help anyone can offer

Default Model 6051 Boot Lnife

Is 6051 stamped or marked any where on
The knife, or just on the packaging?

The model numbers are not on the knives, just the packaging and sales literature.

Thanks KO, was the 80's the only time
"S & W" boot knives like this were made?
Approximately what do they sell for now?

The 6051 was only made in the early '80s and made in America. There were some later boot knives starting in the mid '90s made over seas.
The original American Series 6051 usually brings $40-$80 in online auctions.
