Default What does "NEW OLD STOCK" mean?

Hello,
What is meant by "NEW OLD STOCK"?
I see this quite often and am confused by this statement. It is frequently used in descriptions when selling grips, cleaning kits, papers, etc.
Thank you,
NJ

Probably like so many terms, it means what the user wants it to mean...

To most of us, it means its a brand new item that was never sold at retail to a consumer. If you bought it and put it up for 20 years, never taking it out of the original bag or box, it shouldn't be advertised as "new".

We have a business that sells consumer items. Often something turns up in a cubbyhole. While we're a wholesaler, the items qualify for the moniker in my opinion. The term "old stock" indicates its still "stock", not an item being resold.

"unused"...and often associated with discontinued items.

Unused, but not of recent manufacture.

There is no set standard for what each person means using this phrase, however, I usually take it to mean that the item has been in the store or warehouse for a really long time, but remains new in box, unopened and not used.

"New old stock" should not be used for guns or other items used by the FFL holder that have simply never been logged out on the dealer books.

"New" should mean new in box - as it came from the factory, while "old stock" means it has been in the seller's inventory in that condition for a long time.

The term NOS is also used to distinguish genuine Harley, GM, Martin Guitar etc. factory made parts , that is new parts that have become old sitting on shelves or in warehouses as stock , from replica new parts made by other than the original manufacturer ..

All are correct answers but this one is probably the closest.

With S&W stocks, I would take that to mean that someone has a set of stocks manufactured in 1970 that are still in the cardboard and blister wrap as they were when new in 1970. The original package has never been opened and the stocks have never been on a gun. To me that is NOS. It would kind of be like comparing your wife now to your wife on your wedding night.
