Default S&W 1000 Auto safety - need assistance

I have a S&W in that had the common issue of gas system problems. That is all resolved but I can not get the auto safety to disengage, so the hammer follows the bolt every time you fire. Basically a single shot gun right now.

Can someone explain how this system is supposed to work upon firing?

What I think I am seeing: To get the trigger group in the gun you have to come up and push back, so that auto safety tail catches the receiver. This pushes the trigger bar down to the sear and then the trigger works.

What pushes the auto safety back after firing, so that the sear can catch the hammer again?

I am 70% sure it is assembled correctly. The auto safety and spring sit just like Numrich's part picture - Trigger Plate Assembly, 12 Ga. | Gun Parts Corp.

Ideas?
