Default Remington Ammo Issues

Just curious about all the issues 15-22 owners have reported while using Remington Ammo.

I noticed today that Remington is recalling it's 17 HMR ammo. It warns users to not use it's ammo in semi auto firearms!

Check this out! Safety Warning And Recall Notice

Wonder if the .22lr has a simular issue or will be next for a recall?

Wink

The issue with the 17HMR is not due to any kind of QC issue at Remington. The 17HMR isn't designed to function in a semi auto and was causing some OOB discharges. The Remington 22LR ammo should be perfectly safe (if you can get it to cycle ).

Several years ago I bought a box of Remington .45 Colt ammo. I fired it in a Ruger Blackhawk, Smith 25-5, and a early 80's vintage Colt SAA. I had split cases in ALL the above guns. Haven't bought any Remington ammo since. Not saying it wasn't a fluke, but I have to have total faith in my guns and ammo, and that one instance really shook my faith!

Went out and shot my 15-22 today for the second time, and shot 100 rounds of Remington plated round nose ammo and had only one FTF.

If today was any indicator the thing with Remington ammo may be loader error and /or they may need to smooth out the feed ramp with some 320 grit emery cloth to take off the machine marks. Lead tip vs Plated ammo make play a factor as well.

After learning the proper way to load the magazine all seems good.....it better be I've got about 500 rounds of it left.

Default Ammo

i took out 6 different kinds of 22LR ammo and set them next to each other on my table.
Casings were all the same.
The bullets were all VERY different in design.
This can not be a good thing.
With all of these various designs I guess you have to go thru some and just see what works in your gun and use it.
This does not mean the other stuff is bad.

Yes. I posted the below pictures comparing Fed with Rem. They have substantially different bullet profiles. The profile of the Fed would seem more accomodating to a magazine that is too snug or snags in operation.

I'm totally agreed with that. That might be the reason why CCI's Mini Mags work so well with 15-22, in most case.

1) 22WRM Winchester 40gr JHP (gray box)
2) 22LR CCI Velocitor 40gr HP
3) 22LR CCI Mini-Mag 40gr Solid
4) 22LR Remington Golden Bullet 38gr HP
5) 22LR Remington Subsonic 38gr HP
6) 22WRM Reminton Premier V-Max 33gr V-Max
7) 22LR CCI Stinger 32gr HP
8) 22LR Federal Hyper Velocity 31gr HP
9) 22WRM CCI Maxi-Mag +V 30gr JHP
10) 22L CCI CB Long 29gr Solid
