Default Shipping A Rifle For Repair

What do I have to do to ship a Rifle to a Gunsmith for Repair?
Can I use Fed-X, UPS, or the Post Office?
I think it is not required to ship from a FFL Holder as long as I'm shipping to a Gun Smith for Repair ... right ?

Advise ?
Thanks,
Ken

Yes to all.
Long guns can go UPS ground, which is what I used last time.
Be sure to declare and insure on the shipping form. Don't mark the box as containing a gun.

S&W uses FedEx when you send a gun back to them for repair. That's how mine went. I was told a gun shop would do it for you if you ask them.

I have to ship a shot gun back to Ruger and I called ups and they told me to take it to a ups shipping center, not the little stores and they would ship it in a plain box.

Thanks
