Default Model 125 rifle ?

Anybody have, or know the whereabouts, of a S&W Model 125 Bolt action rifle? These were offered in 1973 in calibers 30-06 & .270 in standard & delux grades. Ed.

Ed, I have looked through all of my rifle brochures and can find no reference to a model 125 rifle. I have information on the A,B,C,D,E rifles and the 1500, 1600 and 1700 rifles, but nothing on a model 125.

James, The Model 125 is a very rare S&W rifle. I estimate maybe 1/2 doz. may have been made. See page 333 in SCSW, 3rd edit. I have factory brochures describing the Model 125 dated 3/73 and pictures of it were in things like Gun Digest, Guns Annuals, etc of the period, so marketing was started but production was stopped. From the pictures, I would assume they were made from Husqvarna parts and perhaps that part source dried up, for what ever reason, so production didn't happen, except for a few examples. The Model 125 followed the end of the letter series rifles made by Husqvarna until 1972. S&W did not again offer rifles until 1981 when the Japanese Howa rifle series began. Ed.

Well as with most things S&W, you just don't know what you don't know.

The only Husqvarna I know about is in my shed waiting to cut down a tree! LOL. Best to you finding what you're looking for.

jayb514, If it's caliber 30-06 and you have enough ammo. you can cut down a tree with it! Ed.

Ed, I wonder if our imperious leader has ever lettered one or knows of their disposition. With only a few made, I would think that they went to VIP's.

I did get you PM and await your printer repair.

James, In a brief discussion with Roy recently about the model 125s, he indicated that he did not know of any for sale, or where I might locate a specimen, so I assume from that, there are none left in the factory. ( He also didn't comment that he had one in his collection! ) My guess is that S&W probably blew out all they had to a distributor when they went out of the rifle business in '73. I didn't specificly ask him if he had ever lettered a Model 125. Ed.

Can anyone post some pics of the model 125? I am a Husqvarna collector and I should be able to tell from pictures if they were Husqvarna parts or not.

sbhva, Welcome to the Forum. You can see a picture in the 1975 Guns & Ammo Annual, page 269, and in the Shooting Times issue of August 1973, page 76. It's also pictured in the S&W flyer for the Model 125, dated Jan. 1973. Dan Meigs was supposed to take a picture of the flyer and post it here, however he was ill with the flu early this month, so will have to wait until he and I can get together at a gunshow, probably in January. Ed.

I have a barrel for the Model 125. I think Roy has one or just sold one.
