Default M916 riot gun

Hi guys a friend of mine is wanting to trade me a S&W M916 riot shot gun in excellent shape. I am having a hard time finding much info as to the value of these and don't know a thing about them. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Also I have not seen the gun so don't know any particulars about it.

Thanks
Batta

Default M916 riot

Hi Batta, I have seen these and they are extremely rare. The original 916 can be somewhat problimatic and to be "frank" with ya junky, but the riot version with the attached A (916A) make sure the gun you are trading for has the affixed marking, it should also have a S&W logo stamped on the reciever is actually made by S&W and they are well made, and great functioning guns, I have only seen two in my entire days and they fetched a hefty price, im not sure what you are trading for, but I wouldnt hessitate at 450-600 depending on cond. Feel free to contact me.

I started out collecting police and military shotguns because in the late 60s they were the cheapest guns to buy. I now have a couple of hundred of them. I do have a 916A and it is an excellent weapon. The one I have is from the NV prison system and was traded in the early 70s. Prison shotguns have a lot of wear and are qualified with more often than police shotguns. It appears that mine was rehabbed at S&W some time prior to being traded in on I do not know what other shotguns.
They are very slick working and the action mimics a really good 870. I really like it and would shoot it more but I don't have a ready supply of those little inexpensive but vital shotgun parts that will render it useless if they break an cannot be procured.

I sure can't discern any significant difference between the 916 and the 916A in terms of design, materials, or workmanship. As you say, the 916A does have that big S&W logo stamped into the receiver, but I'm not sure how much significance should be attached to that. The 916 does bear the "Eastfield" name but immediately below that there is also Smith & Wesson's name along with the Springfield, Mass. address, which is highly suggestive of where and by whom it was made, too.
