Default S&W Model A Bolt Action Rifle

I need information and or a parts diagram on the rifle,
What I know is it is a S&W Model A in a 300 win mag. It was made by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks A B Sweden between 1969 and 1972. I read where 750 were made , that does not sound like much to me but maybe there was some problems with the contract between the 2 companys. I did not show a picture because the gun was customized with a fiber glass stock and some kind of coating that give it a blueish gray look. It has had trigger work and is set at 1.5 lbs, and my Gunsmith has the gun and i cannot get a picture right now.
The problem I'm having is I cannot remove the bolt without removing the trigger. My Gunsmith say's there is a part missing from the trigger that does not allow the hammer to drop down below the groove under the bolt that allows it to come out of the receiver. He has tried to make a pin with a spring to go where the part is missing but it makes the trigger pull very hard. If some one knows anything or has a diagram of this rifle it would help me .
Thanks,
The Mud Diver

The S&W Model A rifles and the Husqvarna Model 9000 are the same rifle, design wise. The Shooter's Bible, No. 64 (1973) shows an X-Ray view of the action, but I don't have a parts list in my files. Perhaps the S&W Factory Customer Service can point you to a source. A unique feature of this rifle is an outside trigger adjustment screw. It's just ahead of the rear guard screw hole under the bolt. The basic desgn is the old Mauser action with modifications. GunFacts magazine did extensive reviews of this rifle in their 1969 issues. If you can locate those issues, perhaps their diagrams, etc will be helphful. Also, you might want to move this posting to the S&W long arms catagory, as readers there may be more familiar with Model As, then I am. Good Luck, Ed.

Look for a copy of the book Bolt Action Rifles, Revised Edition, By Frank
de Haas. The S&W Husqvarna rifles are covered as well as many other
action types. Your gunsmith mentions a hammer but most bolt action
rifles are striker fired.

Wish I could help. I have a S&W Mo. D also made by Husqvarna and have tried to get an upgraded trigger but no luck. Husqvarna made some very good rifles back in the '60s and that is why S&W had them make rifles for them for awhile. Don't know why they stopped. My rifle is a short barreled .243 Win with a full stock (similar to Mannlichers) and it is a dream to carry and handle. Try the old Numrich Arms outfit. They have a new name now but Google Numrich and you will get them. Good luck!

Hello shaker1
What it sounds like that you have is a Model 1640 action. These were the first Generation seriers of Husqvarna actions marketed by S&W. I have an A-Model 1640 action shown below with the non adjustable trigger. Later on, The Engineer's of Husqvarna revised the 1640 action and called the new revision the Model 1900 action. That one has the adjustable trigger and smooth bolt control feed and a bolt face that completly surrounds the cartridge case. If you have the older 1640 action, there is hope for your stiff trigger. This company supplies a bolt in trigger that is of Match grade quality for less than $100.00, see the link I have provided. Also, I provided a link to a Husqvarna rifle site that tells much on these rifles, I hope it helps, Hammerdown
