S&W (Howa) 1500 .308
Anyone else here ever shoot one of the bull barreled walnut stocked 1500s? I've had one for many years and it's super accurate with Federal 168gr hp match ammo. It's wearing a Springfield government scope and Harris bipod.

My brother had one of the 1500's w/ a heavy barrel in .223 Remington. W/ a 6x20 Leupold on top it'd reliably produce one hole five shot groups at 100 yds. IIRC it produced best results with Speer Gold Medal 52 gr. HP bullets over a long forgotten charge of BL-C2. With 55 gr. target type bullets it was supremely accurate for target work. HTH. Sincerely. brucev.

Would yours be the Deluxe Heavy Barrel Varmint w/Parkerized finish, oiled stock, order number 277040? That is the one I've been searching for the last 30 years. I would love to see some photos of the rifle.
I have the blued w/high luster stock version in .223 that is an excellent shooter.

I'd love to find one of those...Howa 1500's are solid rifles and also sold as the Weatherby Vanguard and Mossberg 1500, which is a real sleeper because people tend to associate the Mossberg name with "economy" grade guns of the era when the 1500 was sold, they are priced as such on the used market and are real bargains.

Love my S&W 1500 .223, it's sporting a Leopold 3.5X10 Vari X III, glass bedded Boyd's thumbhole stock and Timney trigger. Mine likes 52 grain hollow points aa well and will go sub MOA if I do my part.

Bull Barrel 223
Just bought this beauty and it drives tacks! Not real happy with the Charles Daly 4x12 AO Scope but it does the job. At the range people come up and look at this rifle and comment on what a nice rifle it is. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Have to figure out how to post pics.
