Default 3000 pump value?

I'm looking for a bit of input, back problems are making me consider thinning the collection, i have a 12ga 3000 pump, new with the box, wood stock, 28" mod barrel. Any idea on value? I've rarely seen a clean used one let alone new in box, but then again it isn't exactly a browning superposed either for value.

I'll try to get pics up if that helps, I assembled it and it sits in the back of the safe getting an occasional wipe down but I've always shot over/unders and it looks like those days are gone too.

Do I just throw it on gunbroker and roll the dice, or forum classifieds etc?

Thx Dan

Some pics would help to make a determination of the value. If it's really an unfired 3000 I would guess the value is around $500-$700 I would try advertising it on here first and save yourself some money.

I think 350 to 400 would be more reasonable. They are fine guns but not difficult to find in excellent shape. I would suggest the classifieds here as a good place to find someone that wants a NIB 3000.

Concur. Shotguns aren't easy to sell once hunting season has ended. Add to that, the older shotguns chambered only in 2.75 in. are having a difficult time competing with new shotguns in the Magnum chamberings. I recently bought my son a Benelli Nova. Gosh is it ugly, but for the price ($399.00 + tax), it's hard to beat. Add to that, it comes with the screw-in chokes and is chambered for the Magnum offerings. The S&W 3000 is a fine shotgun - I believe they were made by H-Standard - but I think you'd be lucky to get anywhere close to $350.00 - $400.00.

Best of luck,

Dave

S&W shotguns were made by Howa of Japan. No one looking for a bird gun is going to look at an old S&W shotgun, obviously they'll look for something newer. The person that is looking to buy this shotgun will be someone that is interested in S&W shotguns or is a collector. If the gun is in new condition and the box is in good shape for it's age, and provided the box has the matching serial number I stand by the number I quoted. You can look on gunbroker and depending on the type of S&W shotgun they're listing anywhere from $149 to $599 without the box. Now will the OP get $700? Beats me, but I sure as hell wouldn't shoot for $350.

I do believein letting the marketplace dictate the price and, if you are not in a hurry, there is no reason to sell for lower than you can get.

It's true that boxes and unfired guns have a greater impact on a collector than on someone who intends to use the gun, however, as a collector of things great and small myself, I can tell you that most of us tend to be very patient and unlikely to jump at a pristine example without some sense that we are getting a good price.

Any idea what the original price of the gun was, new? Might be a good starting point. No collector of guns made in their tens of thousands is likely to pay MORE than the gun cost new unless it is among the last of it's kind in that condition or configuration.

I regularly scan prices for S&W shotguns for a few years now. I see them offered over $500 for nice guns with accessories, etc, but that is rare and they tend to sit, unsold.

For what it's worth, I recently bought an almost brand new mod 3000 Waterfowler (it had a finger mark blemish in the bluing of the receiver so, maybe 98%?) that had box, chokes and even the original sling for $225 at the Kittery Trading Post.

The SW shotguns are not pulling down the big bucks these days, IMHO.

Good luck!

The timing for sale might not be right. On another post on this forum, police trade-ins are being sold for $195.

Current value for new in box examples seems to be $500 as that is what it sold for. New in box was the original discussion, not used shooter grade or police trade in cord wood.

If the moderators have mercy they will please for the love of God close/lock this thread.

thanks, I had a fusion in september, turns out my compression fractures never really healed (2+ years), and I still need another fusion and disc removal in the lower back over the winter. No more shotguns for me unfortunately. Who knows, maybe a small bore in a few years.

68, I am coming up on 11 years since my back overhaul. Still have a little trouble once in a while(especially if I due something dumb) Now my worst days are still better than my best days before the knife. Still part of the reason for me retiring at 65 instead of waiting a couple more years was the fact that the bad days were coming a little more often. (didn't listen to my Dad when he said: " Get a good education, then you won't have to work so hard when you are my age". My life choices left me in a position where hard work was sometimes required and hard work and heavy lifting are not the ideal for old men with bad backs!

Due what the Doc. says (especially the exercise parts), lose a little weight, if you have some to spare, and hopefully thing will improve with time.. Good luck! GB

Mint guns are a whole different market.

Shooter-grade 3000's must now compete with the flooding of the market with Chinese pump guns.

You can get a really nice 870 clone with all the black furniture, rifle sights, integral extended mag tube for less than $200.

China is also making a sub-$200 Winchester 1300 clone.

I've got a 3000
...and an 870
...and a 37

...and a chi-com Hawk 982

Blue Book puts a 100% 3000 at $350, plus $30 for multichoke tubes . . . Looks like it's worth $500 to somebody. Nice work.
