Default Smith Wesson Semi Auto Question

Gentlemen: I recently acquired a SW 12 ga 1000S, I tried it today with various loads from1 1/8 to 7/8 and the gun would not eject the shells, I have looked at everything I can think of,
I cleaned the gun and checked every thing I could. There was a
counter weight on the for end and I took that off. This left a tapped hole, I am wondering if the gas is leaking past the pressure compensator valve? Buy the way that valve just seems to be a plug. When I would fire the gun, I had to manually pull the bolt back to get the shell out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Ron
