It's my understanding that the S&W 3000 shotgun is even better than the Rem. 870 because it cannot be "short-stroked" and jammed in a stressful situation. It's my understanding that the early 870s can be short-stroked and therefore jammed. Whether that also applies to the later 870s, I don't know. Perhaps it doesn't. Apparently, the 3000 is a very good gun.
On that same note, it's also my understanding that the Ithaca 37 pump shotgun is the best pump ever made - hardly anything ever goes wrong with it, and also, it's ambidextrous with its bottom ejection. I've never seen a broken Ithaca 37, and I've seen plenty of broken guns.
