$200 S&W 3000 Riot
I'm guessing in 1992 I found this in a local pawn shop. At the time I had a Mossberg pump but this shot gun called out to me. It looked a lot better than the 870's we were issued back then.

I got to keep my S&W 3000 riot shotgun when I retired.
Mine is a lot more worn with dark wood.
Presently, it stands ready next to my bed.
Lots of memories return when I hold it.

Nice! Wish mine had the sights. I got mine a long time ago from a local police Chief, he had left it in the trunk of his car in a fleece lined gun case and was covered in light surface rust and the stock and fore end finish suffered as well. The parkerized finish cleaned up nicely and so did the wood. It has been a faithful servant ever since. Oh, paid his asking price of $75.00. Enjoy yours!

I bought two older Remington 870 police magnums a few years ago for under $400. They're not that expensive

SCSW 4th edition indicates that S&W Model 3000 Police with 18" barrel was made by Howa in Japan.

These are actually pretty good guns. I have two and have shot them with no problems.

Seems very well made. Heft is comparable to an 870. With the exception of the magazine tube the parkerized finish is the heaviest I've seen on a production gun. Head and shoulders above a 916. I've never patterned birdshot but 9pellet 00 patterns 12"+- at 20yards

Going to date myself with this post BUT ---- Back in 1974 A local Big Box store was selling S&W shotguns 18 inch barrel wooded stock for $79.00 new. I picked one up Wish I still had it today but that was forty some odd years ago

I was paying less than $100 for model 10's back then. You can still find the 3000 in the $200-300 range, but not so much with the model 10's. Just making a comparison.

Isn't the 3000 a copy of the Browning BPS?

The 3000 is more of a metric copy of the 870.

I’ve told this before, but when I retired, I got to choose between a Glock 22 or my duty shotgun. Not a difficult choice........
