S&W 3000 observations
I recently picked up 2 3000's and whatever spare parts I could find. Great guns, impressed with the quality.
However, there are a few parts inconsistencies I noticed between the two guns -
- There are two different style breech bolt bases and action arm styles. They are not interchangeable. The Type 2 BBB with fit on the Type 1 action arms, you can rack the bolt, but you're left with a dead trigger.
Type 1
Type 2
- One gun had a receiver stud. The other didn't, the stock retaining bolt threaded directly into the receiver.
I purchased a stock replacement from Boyds for the top 3000 in the pic. Not the greatest, but I work at a machine shop, so it's no problem to figure out the threads and come up with the correct fasteners to attach 870 stock options. Just need the time to do so.

There used to be Davis "Speed Feed" butt
stocks for them, floating around.
Slickest pump action shotguns that I've

Mine has that stock. Pretty handy.... nice shotgun and handles full power Hornady slugs with ease.

Great gun! I bought mine new in 1984 and it’s worked perfectly since. Looks like a Rem 870.

Just for purposes of trivia, Bill Davis had Arms Corporation of the Philippines, now Armscor Global Defense/RIA, to make his speed feed stocks.
I have a 3000, but not a speed feed stock. However, back in my cop days, many of my department issued 870s were so adorned.

Found a "Type 1" BBB and swapped out the Type 2. Action is much smoother now.

Changed them up a bit..
I was able to find plenty of spare parts, barrels, etc.
Factory S&W synthetic stock with Speedfeed forend
Factory wood (I refinished, tried to give it a retro/worn look) with factory 22" barrel w/rifle sights. Also have a 18" matching parked Cyl barrel.
Took them both to the range, I was surprised at the accuracy with rifled slugs. Only was able to shoot @ 25 yards, but was still extremely happy.

Addictive
I have 3 of them now, my old 12ga 20"w/rifle sights that was my working gun, another 12ga. that I got to make a folding stock gun, and a blued 20ga. My mission now is to get all the barrel variations for each. For the 12ga., so far I have 18" Police cylinder (Blue and Parkerized), 20" bead parkerized & blued (both Pol. Cylinder), 20"rifle sights Pol. Cyl., (blued and Parkerized), 22" slug Parkerized, 26" plain bead parkerized, 26" Blued imp. cyl. V/R (now with Briley thin walls), 28" V/R interchangeable, and 30" Blued Full. I don't know what else there is.....
The 20 ga. just has the 22" slug, 28" mod V/R, 28" full, 26" imp cyl, & 26" V/R multi, all blue.
I'm not addicted, I can stop anytime....I can Stop anytime...really....

If I can find a 20" barrel, I already have the 8 round mag tube ext from Choate. Also have 2 spare trigger assemblies, and a whole gun's worth of internals and a spare wood stock and forend.
I have to have plenty of spare parts, for every gun I have.

I don't think I have a spare, but I'll check. You may want to keep an Eye out for the Mossberg 3000 barrels on auction sites as well, but be careful - half the sellers include the receiver extension, and call an 18" a 20".

I picked up two of them a while back at the Tulsa Show for $300 for both. At that price I couldn't leave them there. One was long tube, the other short tube. Both function very well and the long tube serves as a house gun. A few months ago I found one with the black plastic folding stock in Kenner, La. For $220.00 OTD. All of the above were former LEO guns with little wear.
