Would love to see Smith & Wesson make a lever action rifle in the popular magnum pistol calibres ...357 44,460 & 500 mag.
That would be nice.

The lever actions seem to make more sense than the i-bolts. I would trade my rossi lever action in for a S&W if they made them.

Man, I think that's a great idea. The 460 would be cool if you could use the .454 and .45 colt in it.

I would definatley buy a few. Like to see a short barrelled "trapper" type model with a 16 or 18 inch barrel and maybe a 20 inch model, stainless with a laminated timber stock, swivel studs, drilled and tapped for scope mounts and side eject of course.Chambered in 22lr,22magnum,357magnum,44magnum,460 & 500S&W magnum.Maybe they could come out with there own hard hitting big game calibre to rival Marlins 444 & 450.

I was always wishing that Marlin would make their lever guns in 500, but someone pointed out to me that the 500 operates at around 60,000psi, and that even strong lever guns are not up to those sorts of pressures, are only good into the low 40K range.

It's too bad that S&W didn't jump at the chance to buy Winchester. Not only would it have been full circle (most of ya'll know the story anyway) but The S&W long gun line could've been merged with WINCHESTER by Smith and Wesson

Well, they do make a quasi-lever action...

It's call a Contender.

Or Encore, if you need a big gun.

S&W brass spent several weeks studying the Winchester plant & equipment and came to the conclusion there was not profitable way to make the purchase work. Winchesters machinery & tools were out dated, etc., so they passed on the opportunity. Don't forget S&W made lever action guns 175 years ago, and they went broke, sold out to some guy named Winchester.

Most of the pressures I've read from the 500 are under 50,000Psi which is the same as the new 308 Marlin Express. Maybe I'm just uninformed...

Love my Marlins, the 1894C when shooting 38+P is so quite that a CB cap in my 22" Marlin 981T sounds loud. The 44 Remington Magnum 1894 is on the way, and then there is my 1894M (22WMRF) in the picture below. I have decided to get a Marlin 39A this month or next month.
