Default New M&P 15-22 owner comes out of the closet

I was wandering aimlessly around Gander Mtn Sunday afternoon after dropping my wife off at the movies so she could see "Julie and Julia". I saw a friend who told me he wanted to get one of the German .22LR copies of the MP5. I said I would really like to see one of the new 15-22's but nobody seemed to have one. A salesman who had been standing nearby listening to us wandered off, reappeared a little later with a box in his hands and said "we just got one in!". (This guy should be commended).

I looked at it and said I would be back Monday if they would hold it for me. "Sure, no problem". Well, I picked it up Monday and headed directly to the range after mounting a Bushnell Elite 3200 10X tactical scope on it.

This little rifle has to be the coolest, most fun .22 I have ever had. It digested absolutely every type of ammo I had available, about 5 different people shot it and at least 2 of them are now looking for one also. We went through at least 150 rounds which included 2 boxes of Super-X 15-20 years old which had "OLD ****" written on the side. One guy loaded 25 rounds of "OLD ****" and proceded to whack the heck out of a 10" plate at 100 yds as fast as he could pull the trigger. When the magazine was empty he looked at me with a big grin on his face and said "Man, is this thing a hoot!".

So, if you have been having doubts about getting one just go ahead and buy it. You'll love it. Accuracy is real good (about 3/4 to 1" at 50 yds), it is reliable (not one jam) and it is just a whole lotta fun.

You are fortunate you located one...very hard to find this new item!

My brother-in-law has had his for 4 weeks and loves it...likes it more than his M&P15T.

Congrats. I was lucky enough to get one a couple of weeks ago for $429 during the Cabela's 4 hour sale.

Cool bean's dude! Thats a good way to invest your time wilst your wife is preoccupied! Oh, by the way, tell your friend to skip the GSP-5 carbine and buy a S&W like you. My GSP-5 has been a constant sorce of irritation with me, had it out yesterday along with my 15-22 and the German made piece of **** broke yet again!

Just got off the telephone with my brother-in-law. He took his M&P15-22 to the range yesterday with his neighbor. The neighbor was so impressed he located one for sale with an online dealer this morning & bought it...$490!

My brother-in-law now has 2,800 rounds through it...keeps getting better.

Just picked one up at a shop here.....$425 OTD. I can't wait to try it out, will do that this weekend. Not sure what to do about sights on it yet, like the light-weight compact nature of the gun and think I'll play with the stock irons for a while and see how it goes. If I decide I need something different I will probably try a very compact red-dot of some sort to avoid making the gun more bulky.

As some now, mine was sent back to S&W, because it just kept frequently jamming on me. I ordered a new mag for it from S&W and got it yesterday. And heres my thinking, i think this mag is alot tighter than the one that came with my gun that was had more a easy feeling pulling down the assest buttons, even the yellow thing had some slacky feel, the new one, is super tight all around, And that very well could have been my problem, anyways. S&W told me today that they got my gun, and that they have been moving pretty quick on them, and i should have mine back by end of next week, we shall see, sure hope so!!!! Also i plan on getting the Vortex Strikefire Reddot scope, they have them at Gander Mountain among other places for 149. Congrads on your new 15-22, cant wait to get mine back.

Smith & Wesson hit a home run with their M&P 15-22. I have a Colt M4 and a GSG5 and the M&P outclasses them both. It is a better engineered and designed gun and I predict will become the best selling S&W product this year. The thing is so much fun to shoot I relagated my other 22's to the back of the vault. Well Done Smith & Wesson.

Default I love my m&p 1522

Well guys what can I say that has not already been said but one thing...ammo prices are gettin rediculous and as I am gettin over 7 surgeries from an on-duty head on collision that occurred in Oct 2008, it is the perfect low cost, no kick firearm for me and my 11 yr old son to shoot the devil out of! After a 6 hour knee surgery 'bout 11 days ago we wheeled out in my wheelchair and fired bout 200 rounds off my back deck into our homemade dirt target burm without ANY ftf's at all...Thank you S&W for such a great training platform and more specially a fun fantastically made firearm for a very bored frustrated homebound wounded cop..lol

georgia gent,

Good luck with your rehab. I know what you are going through. I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoudler on June 4th, then I had the same done to the left side September 10th. I will be away from the job until the first of the year. Mine was not on duty, but I do have enough sick days after 25 years.

The M&P 15-22 was nice to shoot there before my second surgery. Just waiting for this one to heal up enough to get back at it.

Lynn

At least you do have a nice little rifle and your son to keep you company. Hopefully together they will help keep your mind off of things during the recovery period. Plus the fact the S&W really seems to be well designed and thought of, which makes it painless just to shoot without FTF's and the FTE's I experienced with my Colt M4 .22. This is the very reason I ordered my own S&W months ago, which finally came in last week. Now all you have to worry about is running out of the .22 ammo. Get on the horn and let it be known to your buddies that you and your boy need some .22 ammo. I'll bet you end up with more than you could imagine.

I am Sorry to hear about (and see) your mishap. Hopefully what-ever did the damage to the front end of your cruiser took some of the sting out of the hit for you? I know it may be a long hard recovery for you and your Famiy? But at least you are still here and in one piece. We just had one of our County Sheriff's T-Bone a 18 year old girls car while he was responding to a call. The end result makes the damage on the front of your cruiser look like small a dent. The unfortunate thing is the girl was killed at the scene, and the Sheriff was very critical the last I heard.

We have a local news-paper that always takes pictures of all of the torn up vehicles and plaster's them on the front page. This time I was shocked (and happily so) that they decided not to show either vehicle this time supposedly out of respect for the 18 year old girl's Family.

I know you said the healing part is very painful. But at least you do have the love of your Family so the task at hand (your complete recovery) won't be as bad as someone who has no-one to help them. You are lucky in many ways. Good Luck, and God Bless.

Default Thanks guys!!!!!!

Thank you all for your encouraging words and kinship on this board! It is great to finally find a firearms dedicated board on the web, that being a law enforcement officer doesn't make you a lepper LOL..As for my story, I was struck by a 17 year old driver, traveling 85 mph plus in a 35 mph zone in the rain, while he was texting, he lost control and crossed the center line hitting my cruiser head-light to headlight....he had minor injuries thank God! Both that young-in and I were very blessed that day...folks don't take anything for granted...it can all end quickly and without your control....Thanks again ya'll!

Hey georgia gent, glad to see you survived that one, those Crown Vic's are a very good vehicle (if you really have to that is) to have a crash in! Was a mechanic for the PSP for thirty three years and we had some horrible crashs and never lost a Trooper in Troop G. Good luck for a speedy and full recovery.

Gotta agree with you. I bought the Colt M4 ops model when it was first available. Thought it looked tacticool and it was a Colt, right? Acceptable accuracy at the range, but that was about all the positive it had. A bitch to clean, and the trigger felt like about 20# pull. That oversized magazine that costs close to $40.00 to get additional units was no plus either. I had a chance to sell the Colt earlier this week, and it now has a new home. The buyer got a real bargain, and I don't have to worry about it breaking in half like has been documented on other forums.

My 15-22 is a real blast to shoot. No regrets here. And, you can put a lot of accessories on the 15-22.

georgia gent, there are a lot of brothers on this forum, I spent 31 years on the Chicago PD. I hope you got an LEO discount on yours as I did. Enjoy your new rifle and have a speedy recovery.
27 beck, I'm going to sell my Colt M4 and GSG5. After shooting the M&P it's hard to go back to the others.

27 Beck - I completely agree, after getting the M&P 15-22 I can't wait to trade-off my Colt M4-22 (and I desperately tried to fall in love with the Colt/Umarex... Umarex is a local company that I wanted to support).
