first 10 shots
So I finally got this thing out and shot it. Cold right out of the box here are the results. I can't say I could be any happier with it. I put another 500 rounds threw it after that and all were the same. If you have been thinking of picking one of these rifles up do it, you won't regret it.

Sure thing. Per the BATF: Adding a Vertical Fore Grip to a Handgun
Disregard if you already knew but a lot of people don't know this.

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on the grip. Not to go off topic, but, it is scary that simply by adding a grip the whole context of the firearm changes. I assume that the grip is not allowed whether or not it extends vertically or horizontally from the rail. Also is interesting that the 15/22P is considered a 'handgun', but I don't think that I have ever fired it with one hand. It naturally goes in two hands by the ergonomics of it. The grip will be removed permanently as soon as I return from work today. Thanks again for the clarification.
Any other ATF subtlties that one should be aware of??

It really is stupid, but it's the law. I've considered putting a vertical grip on the rail of my normal pistol, but thankfully I learned of the law before I debuted that at the range.
You're not allowed to add a stock to a pistol either. I imagine that's why S&W put the sling point right there.
If you have both the pistol and rifle 15-22 do not swap uppers/lowers, since you'd be creating a short barrel rifle (though I'm not certain if the 16" barrel on the pistol lower is a no-no, but at that point you can most likely be found guilty of intent to join the other two and make the SBR).

Well I understand that it is not actually law but just bureaucratic regulations and the courts have ruled against the BATF on that matter stating that they are still pistols and not AOW's, but they continue to arrest and prosecute ignoring the rulings. The BATF tried to do the same regarding the TC Contender but the courts finally prevailed on behalf of TC and the shooting public. Still wouldn't advise that accessory.

They differ a little from each other, but give you an idea of what a M&P 15-22P MOE would look like....hehehe.

Nice. What scope is that? I don't think I've seen one quite like that with ACOG style mount and short rail sections.

If prairie dogging or shooting at longer ranges, I swap it out with a 3-9x redfield.

huntsman22, That is a great looking pair of 22s. 2 of the most fun shooters I know of, the 39 and the 1522. That has to be a hard choice of which one to grab! I'm guessing the 39 is a bit more accurate, but the 1522 can definitely fill the air with more lead.

My Offering
Here is my 15-22. Simple, but its what I have.
I have added a Sight Mark optical sight, UTG carry handle, hogue grip, Midwest Industries front sling mount, and butt pad, plus UTG rail covers. Not much modification but it makes it mine.

Carry Handle
The handle is from UTG (Leapers) and is one of the cheapest I found. I paid 30.00 and after I got it I found it even less expensive. It is really well built and solid. The reviews I read on it before purchasing were almost all five star. I really like it, for those looking for one, I would get this again in a heartbeat.

I've got a UTG buttpad on my 15-22 (FDE) mainly because the plug of the "buffer" tube kept coming off. Once I got it on I liked the fit against my shoulder better than the stock.

And well you should be curious! I have super sensitive shoulders. No, really it was for my wife and grand kids who didn't like the hardness of the original stock. I like it because you can keep stuff in it. There isn't enough recoil to warrant having it, but it keeps other shooters in my family happy. And it really does fit better, and not so slippery.

Three reasons having nothing to do with recoil:
1. protect butt
2. keep from losing what's stored in the tube when the rubber plug falls out
3. some of us need longer butt stocks, so the butt pad helps a little.

I got this idea from another forum:
"All you need to do a snakeskin pattern is about a 1'x1' square of mesh and the spraypaint of your choice. We use Krylon in my unit because it dries quickly and fades naturally over time.
As for mesh...the smaller the pores, the better. I have a bunch of sniper veils sitting around so I always use those. I see a lot of guys using very large holes in their mesh and I've found that this doesn't work very well for the sake of camouflage, but it *might* enhance cool points.
Lightly and evenly lay down your base coat. If you're doing a desert camo, I recommend 3 colors: tan, brown, and an OD green. Lay down a base coat of tan. For the "scales", place the mesh against the weapon and hold the can about 6-8 inches away. Lightly spray in a diagonal motion and occasionally widen the pattern so as to not have totally straight lines. Avoid vertical/horizontal as very few things in nature are perfectly straight. The whole point of camo is to break up the shape of your object, so space out your "scales" unevenly and just wing it. You'll know what feels right when you do it.
Put down the brown scales first, then hit the rifle with a few stripes of green to accent the brown. For every 3 pieces of brown do 1 small patch of green.
It's really easy and takes about 20 minutes total to camo a rifle. I used to hang my M4 from a coat hangar and spray it down in a grand total of 10 minutes once a month while I was deployed.
Good luck, and have fun with it. "
I used a bag from some clemantine oranges...

If it uses the same vortex principle as the Smith, it shouldn't need to be timed. I'm running the Smith Vortex on mine (gotta support the local companies) and it just gets hand-tightened, no crush or peel washer needed. The vortex design forces the gases to keep it tight. 22LR might not provide enough escaping gas, but mine hasn't worked loose yet.

Well, mine arrived today. Rifle was full of cardboard dust. Used to manage a gun shop and never saw a dirtier "new" rifle.

you should take before/after pics and send a snotty email to the supplier you got it from.
dirty vs cleaned.
it's really not rocket science to put the gun in a ******/cheap plastic bag.

Smith and Wesson doesn't provide a bag.
You're supposed to thoroughly clean a factory new gun before firing anyway.

When stopping at walmart this poor neglected red dot followed me home! It was the last one on the rack, and $50 for a scope I have been looking for for a very long time was pretty reasonable, plus it came with scope covers. Link to scope
The stock sights were too low any ways, and so was the scope, but I picked up a riser at the local gunshop, and all was fixed! It is supposed to be 0 degrees tomorrow for a high, so I am definitely making sure I preload all my 3 magazines for sight-in tomorrow!
Doc, to answer your question; I couldn't find any for really cheap, I ended up spending $31 for mine (yea, over half what I paid for the scope, for 2 hunks of metal and 2 screws).

I find that to be a rather pejorative statement. To say it is "loose" is one thing but to say it is "ill fitting" is to suggest that it is a bad execution of a design that is supposed to be tight which it is not.

Ok, finally getting around to posting my pics. I just added the Magpul foregrip and then my father got me another foregrip that has the bipod inside, a Tasco 3x9 scope, & some extra clips.

took everything apart, cleaned everything (de-natured alcohol), taped off the interiors. spent some time carefully spraying krylon fusion camo paint (black, green, brown). turned out pretty good.

How is it that I see some people with shorter rails and barrels, did they come like that or are you guys cuttings down the rails and getting a new barrel? Of course I couldn't do this to my rifle (barrel length) cause of New York's laws, but I would cut my rail and get a mock silencer shroud thingy lol
