Default How I came to own my M&P 15-22

If you like the Walther G22 you can go now....this is a horror story.

Bought a used G22 locally and went out shooting a week or so later, had FTFs right off the bat. Even had a discharge before the round was in battery, the second time out it got even worse.

Sent it back to S&W and was told it couldn't be repaired because the part that broke has the SN plate on it and the weapon has to be destroyed....so there goes $350 down the tubes.

The good part is they offered me a discount for a new M&P 15-22 so after reading some reviews I decided to go for it. Well all this happened just just 2 days ago so needless to say I am waiting for them to ship my new toy. I'll have my new magazines before the rifle gets here.

Looking forward to getting a good plinker and by most accounts this M&P 15-22 could be a decent .22lr shooter. It will be nice to have something that closely resembles my M4s that will cost a fraction to shoot.

I'll be sure to post, in the proper forum, an update after my first trip out with it.

Well that doesn't sound too terribly bad. Could have been much worse. Good news is you'll have a good training carbine. I've no experience with this S&W but have had a hoot shooting through my AR conversions.

And welcome to the forum by the way!

I bought a G22 bullpup quite a few years ago. The problem was with the magazines (as many .22lr issues stem). The lips were too far apart and allowed the bullet to lift too high... nearly pointing straight up prior to feeding. Crushed bullets were the norm. The problem was widespread. In S&W fashion, they would say that it had not been an issue but to send the rifle in so they could inspect it. They would do little else but send back the rifle back with a couple magazines (sound familiar here?). The other issue with the magazine was to get the magazine release to catch and secure. Real pain.

I fixed the feeding problem by lightly whacking the lips with a small ball peen hammer until they closed up enough to hold the bullet correctly. I got rid the rifle because I didn't like the bullpup design- having my right eye so close to the ejection port. Cool looking toy... accurate and compact...
