Default Trigger upgrade for 15-22

What will be the best choice of single-stage trigger upgraded for the 15-22? I'm looking at ~4.5 lbs trigger pull.
I heard someone's mentioned trigger set from JP. Should I get the trigger upgrade kit or the modular one?
Please advise.

Thank you.

How much money do you want to spend? Wilson Combat makes a very good single stage trigger. Drop in, no adjustments.

Err..... budget wise, not a whole lot. I've used up most of the budget already.

I'd say $200'ish is the max. Drop in with no adjustment would be best.

Thanks.

Is the one below the trigger you're talking about?

Yep, that is the one. I have that trigger in another AR. It is a Rock River lower with a Spikes Tactical T22 dedicated .22 upper. It is a real sweet trigger, but about 100 over your budget. If it were cheaper I would own more than one.

Why do you want a single-stage trigger? Rock River Arms makes one of the nicest two-stage triggers, very controllable, 4-5 lb pull and it is totally 'drop in'.

And, you know what the best part is? Brownell's has them for about $120. The other $80 will buy you quite a bit of .22 ammo at Wally World.

Have talked to some of my friends, they all recommended Timney Competition. Good reviews and fit right into my budget.

Has anyone had experience with Timney product?

Thanks.

One of the few complaints I have about my 15-22 is a rough trigger. Most reviews say trigger pull is decent on these, so maybe I got a lemon in that regard. I've been thinking of sending my FCG to Bill Springfield and having him do his trigger job on it. Does anyone know if the FCG in the 15-22 is mil-spec in terms of quality? Same components as the regular M&P15? If so, I may go that route...

Try a trigger on the Colt M4 if you have a chance. You will come away thinking you have a match trigger in your 15-22.

Yes, mil-spec. I have a Rock River two stage in mine. I also have been thinking of sending it to Bill Springfield to be "blessed".

The RRA 2 stage is a good trigger. I have one in my 15-22. If one shops around on the 'net" they can be had for about $100.00. ar15.com is a good place to shop around on.

I've heard that about the Colt... After inspecting the engagement surfaces on mine, it's obviously in need of a little "cleaning up". Think I'll give Mr. Springfield a try

If money is not the issue go with the Geissele DMR. I have a rock river 2 stage and the DMR. I just put the DMR on all of my rifles. They are the best(in my opinion). The 15-22 has no jerk at all. I will post videos of it this weekend at the range.

Default Timney Trigger perfect accuracy upgrade

This is an older thread regarding which drop in trigger works well for the M&P 15. I thought I would give some up to date feed back for those who are still interested. I installed a Timney in my M&P15 last year and I'm more than satisfied. The install is truly drop in and hassle free. The quality of this trigger is far superior to any mil-spec modification and is equal to or better than many of the other drop in options that are available. I've just confirmed with S&W / M&P support that the M&P 15-22 Sport will accept drop in triggers as it uses a mil-spec trigger group. I'm going to drop a Timeny into the new M&P®15-22 Sport when I receive it.
These Timney triggers are the easiest and most affordable accuracy upgrade for your rifle. You will not be disappointed.

I have been running a Geissele Super 3 gun (S3G) in my 15-22 for several years. Works great for Steel Challenge and range plinking.

Jarred trigger can be had for about 150 and for a few dollars you can get different springs to change the weight. Im in the market for the 1.5lb top adjustable single stage and its $148.00

Hiperfire 24C in mine 2lb, 3lb or 4lb optional trigger pull, ridiculous finger breaking hammer fall. Single stage, super crisp, no creep, insane reset. Love this trigger, worth every penny!

I don't know if this applies to the drop in triggers, but when I installed the ALG-ACT trigger in the 15-22 I also installed the slightly longer "Colt 901" trigger and hammer pins (available from Geissele) and they are the perfect length for the slightly wider Polymer lower on the 15-22.

Yeah. That most certainly applies to this thread. My slidefire kit came with the appropriate length pins for a 15-22. I like my cmc but that hyper fire has my attention. I need to build a lower and try one

HiperFire 24C in mine, with the KNS 15-22 anti rotate pins. Perfect match of 2 pieces of precision kit.

Absolutely love the set up. Worth every penny. IMO

Default Would 4.5# pull work for you?

I'm likely to be a "majority of one", but the "Velocity" 4.5# "drop in" is rated for 22LR and Russian steel ammo. I have two of them, and like them a lot. I have had zero failure to fire with 7.62 Tula, Wolf, GD ammo... which I can not say for the RRA trigger (much lighter hammer for faster lock time).

Your not alone, I have the 4# velocity in one of my dedicated AR22s. Reliable ignition and feels great!

That same setup broke the RRA 2 stage trigger in 3000 rounds. RRA told me to pound sand since it was being used in a "blow back" gun....

I really like my RRA AR. Really good quality rifle for what I wanted at my price point. However I have heard of the triggers failing in blowback rifles. Isn't that the trigger used in the performance center version of the 15-22? It just seems odd that s&w would use that trigger if it is known to have issues in blowback rim fire rifles. Or that RRA would sell them a bunch of triggers for this application

It is the same design but no one is absolutely sure it's a RRA assembly. I replaced the 2 stage trigger in my PC 15-22 with a single stage CMC trigger and have never looked back.

The RRA hammer that broke in my AR22 (CMMG upper with Aero Precision lower) snapped, it wasn't a sheer type break. Could have been a heat treating issue. (just a guess) Maybe I'll try the PC 2 stage trigger in my AR22, worst that can happen is it fails like the RRA did.

I can't understand why anyone would want a 2 stage trigger in a 'military' style semi-auto .22lr Or are people shooting precision competitions with them?? Fast and furious mini-rifle comps and plinking surely the way to go?

I shoot offhand rapid fire precision comps with mine, i agree that the first stage of a two stage trigger would be surplus to requirements for what i use this rifle for. I opted for a crisp 2lb breaking single stage trigger, great for rapid fire and responsive enough for precision work. Whereas my Annie 1417 is a tuned two stage trigger with a 1.1lb break...that is my offhand precision rifle, the two triggers are different beasts for different purposes. Love them both.

Rick,

Would the ALG-ACT trigger all by it's lonesome be adequate for a 15-22?

I ask because after posting you had installed the AA trigger you followed up with: when I installed the ALG-ACT trigger in the 15-22 I also installed the slightly longer "Colt 901" trigger and hammer pins (available from Geissele) and they are the perfect length for the slightly wider Polymer lower on the 15-22

Are the pins that come with AA trigger the wrong size, or what?

Thanks

Plus one. 😂

If I was bit more with it yesterday I would have given you a shout BStuff. Was out your way with work yesterday. Would have been good to grab a fresh brew on the way back to sunny Lincoln.

Thanks
The pins that come with the ALG trigger will work fine, just be recessed in the receiver a bit. Just make sure the hammer spring engages with the trigger pin slots so it won't walk out on ya.

There are a lot of options for the pins, The KNS Anti-Walk pins work well I am told. I personally prefer the Colt pins as they are flush with the receiver, not recessed nor do they protrude more than a couple of 1000's of an inch. They just look better to me.

I've both the single stage hyperfire, and a giessele G2S, in my 15/22s. I prefer the two stage, since the single stage seems a bit dangerous at the lighter pull weight that I prefer. My shooting is precision plinking, and the two stage seems better for this type shooting. If I were doing a different type of shooting, then I'd likely feel different about preference. And this just proves that you really need to be certain, of the type of shooting you'll do before dropping a couple hundred bucks on a trigger. Both my 15/22s have the kns anti roll pins, because I like using the connecting bar as a finger index. It really helps keep my finger out of the trigger guard.

Has anyone here used a LaRue MBT-2S trigger in their 15-22? If so please give some feedback. Online reviews of this trigger in ARs are very good and the price is right.
