m&p 15/22 new owner
hello..just purchased this rifle 3 days ago...as well as a savage 10/22 w/upgraded tasco...went to Ocala FL state forest free range w/1000 rounds of BLAZER 22LR...(the night before we both read the books and went over both rifles)...i took my time loading the mag..didn't pack it to the limit....i patiently waited for the right side end slot..and explained to a few experienced shooters that my son and i are "virgin's" and never owned guns before...the father and son team moved one slot over for us and welcomed us to the fraternity!..we had 1/2 dozen clays layed on the berm 100yrds out....so here i am a 50yo freshman on prom nite waitin to bust my cherry...well right out of the box i aimed and shot one....few inches off the clay!...hey this is cool!...and continued till empty....i was very impressed with the accuracy and ease of operation....my son stepped up and with the help of my neighbor proceeded to sight in the savage...within 30 minutes we both were hitting the clays like we've been shooting for years....i did not have any "failures" when i loaded the mag....but there were 2 when my son loaded the mag as well as my neighbor...i equate this to them not taking the time to correctly seat the shells as well as trying to fill it to the max capacity...i asked that all only load 20 at a time....and let me see the mag before they step up....no issues!.....we had a blast...500 rounds...(total of 3 stovepipes hung up on the mag)....we came home and stripped down each rifle and cleaned them...spotless...all i had was some advance auto store mpl..multy purpose lube..and compressed air....my son did all the work...extremly easy to perform and re assemble...can't wait to go again...i personally think alot of issues with the mag are due to wanting to rip thru a mag like gi joe and not taking the time to stack/load correctly....just my opinion.......thanx for all the info here ...and looking forward to the membership on here...charlie

congrats on the new toyz. shooting is alot of fun just make sure u teach the basics of safty.. books are great but a good coarse is better and can be alot of fun... accidents happen but its alot easier to learn from other peoples mistakes... good luck with ur new dissease (as my wife calls it) and enjoy
and about the mag prob. as long as there are high cap. mags with load assists for rimfires there will be feed problems... there is a huge prob. with rimfire casings and supprise its the rim... good news is rimfires r cheap so disspose of distorted rounds and move on... hope this helps

yea i hear you on the safety aspects...im a retired heavy industrial power plant mechanic..and my son is on delayed entry for the ARMY...chinook mechanic...i have shot many times in the past but never owned a firearm for personal reasons..but maturity has changed that as well as residency...i waited well over an hour for the range to clear out of all the xmas gift for wives and kids..at one point it sounded like a "bingo hall..i wanted to be comfortable w/my son and be around good quality shooters....the range has about 20 stalls....and i took it upon myself to intro myself to all what appeared to be "regulars"...so i just staged our gear where i wanted to be...extreme right end stall and waited...worth it!......when a request for a "cold range" for a target change out was voiced we immediatly stopped shooting, went to safety on...released mags and clips, open and inspected, and i sounded off ...."we are cold on the extreme right side!'....rifles down..and stepped back behind the red line they have painted on the concrete....i was pleased when i got a thumbs up from all the boy's.......i was impressed with the professionalism of all who were there....im hooked!.......AND my local gun shop offers a free course comin up soon.....needless to say i will attend.....thanx for the rant....charlie

yes thats how i am..in my field of work (superheated steam) you were taught to assess where ever you were going to walk , and watch , look, and listen ...thats why i chose to wait it out before jus going up and blastin off like a newbie........i have been to this range 2x's now ...and i go around and pick up debris boxes cans etc an put them in garbage....helped the viet nam vet who appears to be the "resident godfather"..as he picks up all the spent brass an dumps 'em in his pick up..lol....the stalls have no separation so i was gettin quite a sray'o brass from some off the handgun guys......who know maybe that was a test to see if i was concentrating on my shot?......or would i flinch or rise up and turn with a loaded rifle?.........makes ya wonder?
