Default Pinning a standard magazine for california

Hi all. I was wondering if I would legally be allowed to purchase a 25 round magazine out of state in pieces, and assemble it in CA as a permanent 10 round mag using a screw, a roll pin, etc.
10 rounders are impossible to find right now in California and I want a couple of extra mags. I thought we were going to get a shorter magazine, but in the hurry to get the gun released, Smith used a regular capacity and pinned it, thus giving me the idea.

Could people in California not go to 44mag.com and just buy a 25 round magazine? Or will they not ship to California? And what happens if you get caught with one? And if they wouldn't ship to California, get a buddy in a another state to buy one and ship it to you!

Do a good search of "straw purchase". It should shed a bit of light onto ordering-out-of-state from a friend. In short, it's a felony.

If California law is anything like NJ, also a compliant state, the magazine conversion / restriction must not be reversable by any normal means. My NJ compliant magazine is pinned via a blind drilled hole and the pin secured by some type of adhesive or resin.

A block or an easily removed pin is not a legal conversion for a high capicity magazine by NJ statute.

In NJ we are allowed 15 rounds max.

I have purchased 15-22 magazine repair kits from 44mag and plan on altering them to 15 rounds by the same means as the one that came from the factory.

Depends on which "they" you run across. Could be at a traffic stop. Someone could "rat" you out with a phone call.

as close as they want. all it takes is someone with knowledge of how your "reversibly" pinned your mag and they tell someone else, and so on, and soon the cops are at the range to check you out on a tip your mags aren't legal. is it likely? probably not, but it could happen.

Go to CALGUNS.net and use the search function for all the answers to this question. Have you tried blackdog mags? I thought they made mags for the S&W. I have them for my CMMG and they work great.

What chance do you want to take about seeing a Judge about a non-compliant magazine? Will he want to confiscate the "assult weapon" it belongs to?

The large capicity magazine makes the 15-22 and assult weapon in NJ.

To me it's not worth the potential cost.

That's pretty elaborate though. They would have to know that I kept the old stoppers AND actually try to take the clip apart. It's very unlikely.

If I superglue the bottom piece in place, will that count? I mean, the law is so fuzzy it's hard to interpret what's within the law and what isn't. Even the 5rd (10rd) mag from S&W could be modified if somebody tried hard enough.

Problem is, no one makes just a 10 round mag for the 15-22 yet. The only thing available now is a modified 25 rounder to be pinned at ten rounds.

Black Dog does not make a regular mag for the 15-22 yet. I think it is being seriously considered, though. BD does have 50 round drums available for the 15-22.
