Default Anyone here running a Leapers scope?

I know a lot of the members here went the NC Star route and I am not ruling out that option. But there are two scopes in particular from Leapers that are interesting to me and are on my list and was wondering if anyone here had one, looked through one, knew someone that had one, etc.

Cast one piece aluminum tube, integrated Carry Handle Mount (and this will be going on a Carry Handle). Red/Green illumination with Black Crosshairs. 3x40

BugBuster(Tm) 4x32 with adjustable objective (focus as close as 3 yards). Red/Green illumination, 1" tube diameter.

If I go with the Bugbuster I would need to pick up quick detach scope rings, but I have a picatinny adapter for the carry handle.

Thoughts/Opinions?

I've got a 4x Leapers Colt clone carry handle mount scope. I have beat it like a rented mule for years and it works fine.

Have not seen any of these but I can't use a scope mounted on top of a carry handle. It just sits to high. Have you ever put a scope on the carry handle or used any type of scope mounted to a carry handle. If not you may want to find some one with this set up before investing any more.

84CJ,

Yes I have an RDS up there now. It's not uncomfortable to me. Maybe I am an odd ball.... *shrugs* I know most guys want their cheek on the stock and a optic on the flat top. I can do it either way and I'm fairly proficient either way.

Cool Just wanted to make sure. I have an AR 10 carbine that shoots very well and I mounted a scope on it thinking if I can shoot 1 1/8 groups with iron sights what cloud This thing do with a scope. I just could not shoot it with a scope mounted on the carry handle 2 1/2 - 3inch groups.

I kicked it around and just decided to go with a picatinny mount. I don't want to back myself into the "Must be carry handle mounted" corner and I appreciate you raising the question. I am probably going with the NcStar 3-9x42mm Mark III with the optional top mounted RDS and the quick release mount. If I want it on the carry handle I have a rail up there, or if I want it on the flat top I can mount it there.

And I am going this route because I plan to switch it out to a real AR platform in the future (probably a S&W M&P 15)

Thanks again!

I can have the best combo this way, a small RDS for up close quick acquisition and a real magnification for when I need it.

I had a bugbuster on a magnum spring piston pellet rifle and it perfomed flawlessly never missing a beat. The heavy reverse recoil did not seem to effect the scope at all. The 3 yard adjustable objective was a great feature. The optics while not the best in the world were good enough for 50 yard plinking.

Guy,

Thanks for the review! I thought Leapers made a pretty good product. I had one of their 1x RDS a few years ago and it seemed to be a quality product and I had no issues with it.

I am pretty much decided on the NCStar I posted, we'll see how that goes.

There's a couple ways to mount optics on the carry handle. One is with a scope outfitted with a integrated carry handle mount. My Colt clone is like that and it sits low-- about a 1/16'' from the top of the rear sight aperture.

Other mounts are independent of the scope and place a rail atop the carry handle. Between the carry handle mount, rail and scope rings/mount, the optic can really be lifted high... too high.

I recently mounted a 3-9x scope this way using a Tapco carry handle mount. The scope sits a bit higher (even with low profile rings) than my Colt clone which has an integrated carry handle mount.

Phil,

My issue was that the NCStar I am looking at with the integrated CH mount, sits WAY high. It looks like it will sit every bit as high as my FAKEOG does on the CH Rail.

I am just going to go with the weaver mount, I can live with the added height if I run it off the carry handle, at least this way I will have the flexibility to go from the flat top to the CH and back if I want.

That scope looks great on the CH! I dunno why but I really like the optics up on the CH. But I shoot DANG good with a cheek weld on the stock and the optic on the flat top!

Yeah I like it too. The big advantage for the carry handle mount is that I can have a powered optic while still keeping iron sights and red dot system in place and ready to use. That's not so easy to do with typical rail riser setup.
