rear sling mount
first off i just got my ar 15-22 yesterday... love it and i have had no problems with it...
the only thing i dont like about the gun is the location of the sling attachment point on the stock.
i would really like to use the magpul ASAP mount but sense the tube dosent come off that is out of the question.
so now im looking for a new way to attach a single point sling to the gun in the same area.... im sure someone else has already thought of a way to do this i just haven found it on the web yet.
if fairly new to the AR platform sense i live in cali. is there a way to put a mount using the whole for the pin that holds the upper and lower together?
any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

I drilled a hole through the stock tube/buffer tube/whatever tube right at the base, then mounted a machine screw sling swivel stud through the hole, to a t-nut that was attached to a cut down 7/8" dowel. Somewhat hard to explain, but the pictures are below. The first one is the parts before I mounted them in the tube, the second is the finished look, the third is a few examples of T-nuts, and the fourth is a cross section of how I had to cut the dowel to make it fit as well as how the T-nut is mounted. In the end it cost less than $10, and took around 30 min to do and it feels solid. The trickiest part is getting the stud to thread into the T-nut at the end of the tube, but it worked rather nicely in the end.

Thanks good info.
I haven't received my rifle yet. However I started ordering my gear for it. One of the things I ordered was a Magpul Sling clone and adapter. I didn't know that the tube wasn't removeable,so that would have been a problem.
Thanks very much.

Midwest Industries has a few that will slide over the tube. I have the HK hook one and QD swivel one on order.
Zip ties also work well

I received my Sling and mount today. The sling mount I got was the kind that went between the tube and the body, so I guess I am out of luck on that. But since I live in NY I don't want to install the sling at the far end of the stock.
As far as a zip tie goes, where abouts are you zipping it?

So it just zips around the tube? What about if the stock is all the way extended, would it not slide all the way back?
That link is a good fine. I might have to get one of those.

I like the blackhawk single point sling adapter. That would have worked nicely on my old saiga.
I'm going to add the MI adapter when it comes in, but it supposedly slides around too.
Mine is setup pretty much like Travis's

I just picked up one of those sling adapters on ebay for $8 shipped.
I awaiting on a seller to get his optics shipment in this week. I was going to go with an EOTech clone, but he just said he's got a clone of the Micro T1 coming in. After seeing that I may just get that.

Wow I had no idea those red dot sights were so much. Thanks for the info. The primary ones are blemishes. Any one else make a micro under $100?
I know you get what you pay for, but this sight will always be on a 22lr.
thanks

I know a guy who sells them for $63 shipped with mount included. He has other clones as well. I can steer you to him if you want.

I bought a GG&G Agency rear sling adapter to use with the Magpul sling.
Tactical Rear Sling Mount Adapter for Collapsible Stocks - Stock Side Sling Adapter
It uses a set screw to hold it in place instead of the buffer nut, since we don't have one on our rifles. I used a dremel to grind a notch out of the stock so it would fit. The bottom rail on the tube doesn't go all the way to the lower receiver on a normal AR-15. It tapers off. It works really well and I haven't had any problems with it.

The above photo looks like single point slings. Note the need to keep one or two hands on the weapon so it's not flopping around. All slings suck but single point slings suck more.

I am thinking of getting one of these. Why did you have to notch out the stock, it fits on the tube correct?
The Blackhawk single point adapter I picked up just spins round and round on me. I can't get it tight enough.
