For the average Joe, removing the barrel on a rifle isn't that common. I have several rifles and have not had the need to remove barrels on any of them except the 1522. The reason I first removed the barrel on my 1522 was that others were reporting the barrel nut loosening. I remember Belt_Fed posting that he had seen some real loose 1522 barrels shipped to him for threading.

Damn, Brett! You made disassembling the bolt look easy. I re-watched your cleaning vid so I could learn how to take the bolt off the rails with it in my hands this time and I launched my blue spring 3-4 feet to the wall to my left, ricocheted back to the right side of my room hitting my closet and ending up in a corner I'm definitely cleaning my rifle with safety glasses on

Murphy's law states any spring under pressure will fly to a place where you can not locate it... Safety Glasses are always your best bet!

I thought I had it under control but nope! Went flying haha. I did better the 2nd time taking it off and the 3rd when I actually cleaned everything was the best. Even got it to clip back in pretty easy when I was done =]

Default fde and dnl videos

hey all, first time post. i bought my 15-22 on the 28nov and get to pick it up on the 8dec, yippee. this is my first long gun, i currently have a springfield xd and a remington 870.

anywho, after looking thru the forums, i am a bit concerned about all the fde and dnl (did not load??) that people seem to be getting. looking at the invoice, it seems mine is a newer (i hope) duu serial number magpul version, so hopefully that fixes some of the issues.

i understand that the guns hates remington ammo (with a passion it seems), so ill be sticking with cci it seems.

but onto my question, i looked thru the videos section and didnt see it, if it is there sorry for asking,

but are there any videos on to clear a fde??

thanks in advance

Eclark3D,

Last weekend with three grandkids doing the shooting, my 1st gen 15-22 went through one value pack each of Remington Golden (525 rounds), Federal (550), and Winchester 555. The results: Rem - 2 duds that fired on second attempt, Fed - 3 stovepipes and 1 dud, Win - 1 stovepipe. Bottom line is that my 15-22 doesn't hate any ammo. I would recommend that you don't pre-judge a particular brand and have some fun trying them all. I've only shot 50 rounds of CCI (Stingers - zero problems) because the value packs aren't readily available in my area. However, I just did come across one and am looking forward to testing it.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks Brett! Just installed the JP yellow springs and without your videos, I'm not sure I would have been able to re-assemble the parts! Nice job!

Brett248Vista - as a retiree from the TV biz, I can tell you I really admire what you've accomplished with limited gear. I've seen far worse work done with millions of dollars of equipment and (alleged) professionals doing the production. Keep up the good work, Brother!

Wow I'm blushing here! Thank you for the kind words I really appreciate them!

I've recently upgraded all my equipment so I can shoot natively at 1080P @ 24P or 30P, and added a good audio mic to the mix. But I haven't done anything recently with firearms to shoot any videos. I really need to chance something just to give me a reason to shoot a video.

The only thing I need now is a good studio light for the indoor stuff. I think that's next on my purchase list.

This video is not gun related but here is my first hand held 1080p @24P video from my new Camera.

First 1080p Video test, Nikon D5100 - YouTube

Since this was shot I added a steadycam to the rig so that I am not all over the place with camera shake, I also upgraded to a 20mm to 270mm lens from Tamron.
