Default Do not buy this bipod!

UTG "Deluxe" picatinny mount Bipod.

Just sharing my experience and hopefully saving some members some money (or costing you more, however you wish to look at it).

I bought this bipod because it was cheap compared to a Harris and I thought "really how good does it need to be" well when it flies apart on you... It's not worth much!

I released the legs the other day and the entire leg shot out of the bipod and nearly hit the door on my 300c which would have made me VERY angry! turns out the legs are made out of cheap cast aluminum and are peened in place with nothing to secure them, no roll pin, no set screws nadda!

I think you would be better off with a Harris or even a knock off harris like a Caldwell. I am going to shell out the bucks and get a Harris BRM from LaRue Tactical with one of LaRue's QD mounts ($140) and call it a day!

i've had only a pleasant experience with my UTG. I just pressed really hard on my legs and my pins aren't going to budge. plus, for the $15 from amazon.com, I got more than what I paid for it.

Hotnanas,

It's not that they budge when there is weight on them, it's when you extend them. Make sure you do not let them extend rapidly, or eventually one of the legs will shoot off the bipod. The leg tubes are not pinned in any way.

Neither....

See the threads on the part that stays atatched to the bipod when you unscrew the lower leg? Lets call that part the "upper leg". The Upper Leg is just press fit into the thicker part at the top. There is no roll pin or set screw to fasten the upper leg into the thicker material above it, and it will ultimately pull out from the upper part (it's under a great deal of spring pressure all the time).

hey folks..just MY point of view(you've heard it about everything,...not just from me), "BUY THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD" To me, spending 50 bucks on a bipod that i will use for years trumps the "deal" at some web site. Iknow ya already know this, but it never hurts to hear it again. Example.....i have a bipod for my remingtin 597 that i got at wally world for around 50 bucks...ya its expensive, BUT i don't have problems with it AND i move it to whatever gun i am using that day. my pops always told me...."son, buy the best....then you will never worry abut it again."

Hotnanas,

I think if you cushion the extension of the legs you may be ok. Seemed like mine worked loose from letting the legs extend on their own.

I went over my buds tonight and he had a new in the package Rock Mount 9-13" Harris clone (made in China bought at Cabellas) it's all steel and is an exact duplicate of the Harris. He said I can use it for as long as need be, so I will order the LaRue Tactical QD Mount tonight ($80.00) and use this one for a while till score the right deal on the right Harris.

As a general rule, I try to avoid using airsoft parts/accessories on a real firearm. YMMV.

Thomas H,

There are some exceptions. Some of the parts are fine but you need to know what's good to use and what is not. And thus the reason for my post.

I have a UTG Sling that I think works fine, it's not broken.. The Bipod leaves much to be desired.

I agree. My point was, when it comes to airsoft accessories, buyer beware. Most of the parts are made cheaply at best, were never designed for use on a real firearm, and in the case of some parts, could lead to serious injury.

Default Modified bipod

I bought one of these and when I installed it, I found the one I had was so short that the mag would not clear the bench. I bought a 3/8 steel rod (aluminum would probably be better), cut off two lengths (can't remember how long), sprayed them flat black, reinstalled the new lower legs complete with the original plastic shims into the upper legs. I don't colapse the legs as I made the length exactly the length I wanted with the rod extending full into the body of the upper leg. It's certainly no Harris, but for $4.00 worth of rod, it saved what was completely useless to me into something usable.

looking at mine...why would these be drilled but not pinned? I have some extra set screws and tap, so I will probably just thread these in and set them.

I need to do something with all these extras from my rear takedown pin detent mod on my ar15s.

If your going to compare "price" to a Harris you got what you paid for.
Keep this in the back of your mind.

Quality has a price,
Price alone has no quality.

NJ Shooter,

I don't disagree with you. But with that said, I got my new bi pod setup and I spent 3 times more on just the QD mount than the original bi pod costs, but I didn't get a Harris, I got a Shooters Ridge which is a Harris clone. It's a bit cheaper (not a ton) and this is a much better designed, much more versatile setup.

I was going to do that, and the roll pins would have solved the issue with the bipod, if it had two roll pins it would be a fine bipod for the price. But the last time it flew apart I couldn't find the long spring (there are two springs in each leg) so I just pitched it in the garbage can.

rip,

Yep it's as close as can be! I am actually impressed at the quality of the Shooters Ridge. I spent more on the QD mount than the Bi Pod costs

Yeah i dont have the qd mount but it still only takes about 30 seconds to get off and and a minute to get back on. I still think a 7-12 inch would be perfect for this gun 9 just doesnt clear the mag

maybe your mount is taller than mine but when I have the legs extended to the 9" my mag hits the table before the stock does fully extended

That's odd!

I know the QD mount adds 3/4" or so, and I have the swivel mount which is a little higher. The mag doesn't clear at 6" with the stock all the way in, it takes about 8" to clear.

Besides the $80 adaptor, is there another adaptor that can be used to attach a Harris/Harris clone??

Are the Harris bipods the "gold standard"? Or is there something better?

I think the Harris are one of the gold standards.. There are others, CAA has a new polymer bipod out that looks to be very well designed it's also pricey in the $100+ range.

Panzer,

There are all sorts of Harris to Picatinny rail adapters of varying prices, they just aren't QD type, they use a thumb screw instead of a flip lever. I believe UTG makes one.
