Default Need expert opinion- 15-22 FTE?

My 15-22 will go through 20 to 30 rounds with no problem then it will jam. When I look in the chamber, I see that the new round could not enter the chamber because the previous empty shell is still in there loose. I have adjusted the ejector which reduced the number of times this happens. The question now is.. Is this still an ejection problem and if so, should I attempt to bend the ejector further toward the bolt? It is almost touching now. Let me hear from all the ejection experts.
Thanks for any opinions.

Fred

No expert here. But here is a link to how my ejector is positioned. Thomas said his is in the same position. So that means near 20,000 rounds have been put through a 15-22 with the ejector in that position with zero FTE.

What Chattanooga Phil said. Also, what brand ammo are you using?

Thanks for any opinions.

Fred
When you have a mag inserted is the ejector sitting on the feed lip? If so you might have to bend it up a bit as well as closer to the bolt. Mine was actually setting right on the feed lip and when I cycled a spent round manually it was catching it on the bottom corner of the cartridge, I bent it up a bit so it was closer to the bottom of the bolt and it now grabs closer to the middle of the cartridge and gets a much better bit on it for ejection.

If you ask me the ejector design is piss poor because it bends so easily, a jammed round can easily bend that thing down and bam the ejector is out of spec.

Assuming the ejector is properly positioned, ejection problems are usually related to the extractor. There gotta be 50 photos of where the ejector should be positioned. It rides just below the surface of the bolt.

Once you confirm your ejector is in the right place remove the bolt from your rifle and clean the area under the extractor claw. Removing the extractor (just push pack on the extractor detent pin and it'll fall out) will reveal if there's crud underneath.

Most "stove pipe" failures to eject are the case falling out of the extractor before the case strikes the ejector.

Low power ammo can also cause this as the bolt is not driven to the rear fast or far enough for a solid ejector strike on the case. Too much hammer spring tension will slow the bolt movement. I'm assuming the bolt and carrier are clean and adequately lubricated.
