Other than looks does a flash hider add any function to the AR15-22?

nope, its not really enough mass for accu. benifits..

I suppose a flash hider would provide some protection for the crown of the barrel.
But, truth be told, its mostly for looks.

Another plus is having a threaded barrel for a suppressor, with the tax stamp, of course.
