Magpul XTM rail covers
Can anyone tell me how many (pairs) of covers it would take to cover one entire side of the quadrail on the 15-22? What does everyone think about that rail cover? Are there better covers out there? Thanks!

You would have to count how many slots the XTM panels cover then count the number of slots you have.
I went with LaRue Tactical Index Clips (see photo below) they are each individual pieces and you have more freedom with them, they come in a tin of 72 pieces 4 of those are lower hooks and 8 are top keepers (for routing wires from tactical lights/pressure pads) but the 12 wire retaining type can easily be turned into the regular clips with an xacto knife.
I used one whole tin on my 15-22.

I bought XTMs for my 15-22 not realizing they snap together so that it really takes 2 in order to make one cover. Given the length of the 15-22 rail, you would need one package of 8 per side and that would still leave space for one additional clip. I instead put the XTMs on the underside of my rail and used Troy one piece rail covers for the sides. See the pictures since they're worth 1,000 words.
Two XTMs per side (one pack) doesn't offer much coverage. Note, 2 on left and two not shown in picture on right equaling 1 package:
As it looks today with the Troy single piece rails and the XTMs on the underside. I may move the Troys a bit further forward to better compliment the Magpul AFG.

I put a Laure Index Clip between the XTM panels to make up for the length or rail.

Does anyone have the XT covers, or better yet has anyone cut the covers and seemed them together for an entire rail length? I don't know why, but I don't think I could have a "partial" rail cover (it's hell to be anal retentive). Also, to anyone who has the mag baseplate assist devices, will the ranger plate work with or without modification? Thanks to all!

Ranger plates aren't going to work on these mags.. Standard MAGPUL's will work.

Yeah... I had fiddled with a Ranger Plate for a couple minutes and came to the same conclusion. I thought about ordering a slipo-on Arredondo mag base for $10 just to see.

You'll need 3 complete packages of XTM rail panels to completely fill both sides (6 pairs of XTM, per side rail).

Just adding a few picture of my 15-22 with some XTM rail panels for reference. I bought 3 or 4 packages of the black rail panels and then bought 1 package of each of the other colors to mix and match.

Just added mine today. I have got to fine tune the color matchups when I get the other mixed set I ordered today. I thought 3 sets would be enough, but need more for the top rail.

i personally don't care much for XTM panels, they are a pain to take off. I love my LaRue index clips!!!
I use Index clips on my AR and magpul latter rails on my 15-22 (you can cut a second rail to cover the whole rail)

Looks awesome. I like the position of that offset mount right behind the scope. What's going on it?

Well the cheap FTS mount that I bought for my magnifier sits a bit high and that wasn't working too well with my Bushnell. So for fun I got this 45 degree rail and am going to just mount the magnifier on the side to make it easier to check targets when shooting. I figured it would be faster/easier than putting the gun down and picking up the binoculars every time I want to get a better view of my groups.

I just put some Ergogrips low profile rail covers on mine to eliminate the annoying sharp edges. I doubt I paid more than $8 for four 18 slot sections. Trim with scissors or a razor blade. They don't make the handguards much larger than they already are.

Hey ArcaneFlame,
Who makes the single point sling adapter you have on your gun? Thanks.

Midwest Industries. I cannot get to their website here at work but here's a link to it on MidwayUSA.
Midwest Industries Loop Sling Mount Adapter AR-15 Carbine Aluminum Matte - MidwayUSA
I added the small bit of rope to it which allows it to emulate the functionality of the MagPul Industries Ambidextrous Sling Mount. It allows for a bit more freedom of movement. It works pretty well and was a cheap, quick improvement over just the MI Sling Mount on it's own.
