Federal Bulk FTW! Range Report 3/14/10
16.5 Yards, Federal Bulk, approximately 400 rounds fired, one failure to load (Mag snag) on the "22LR" mag.
Got the 3x9x 42 sighted in and it held zero just fine and dandy! I was not able to get the red dot to sight in, not sure what the deal is, but I wasn't even close to hitting the paper at 25' so I need to take the red dot apart and examine.

Nice shooting!
As I remember, that red dot was sitting high atop the scope. Maybe it just can't adjust that much in only 25 feet? Did you try using the red dot on the rifle instead of atop the scope?

Thanks guys!
Phil,
I did not try the RDS on the rifle without the scope. I am thinking that you are right and that 25' is too close and that there just isn't enough adjustment, but how could they put this combo together and sell it without knowing that? The whole point of the red dot is for close up.
Wonder if I cant the red dot to the side if that would work better since it's bringing it closer to the bore.

Belt_Fed has a scope just like yours and he says he really likes his mini dot on the side. Since you got a ring it might be even closer to center than using an offset mount.

Yep and I can easily rotate it to a 45 cant, I could even go full sideways if need be.
I just canted the rds over 45 degrees to the left and I was able to dual sight the rds against the cross hairs. Looks like
that may be the setup I'll have to run and that works for me! I can use my right eye for the scope and left eye for the rds.

I went to A&S it's just very convenient for me as it's so close.
I just wish the lanes were deeper!

A&S always asks what you are shooting if you come in with a rifle case. You can shoot .223 AR's there but only on certain days. 22LR are welcome any day.
How deep is the Army/Navy range in Latr?

That was a fast fix! I usually set my rifle down on the shooting bench on the left side, do you? Will the dot be tucked in far enough so it doesn't get bumped?

Brett, LOL!
Phil,
I have a bi pod... even if I don't use the bipod, the indoor range lanes have a shelf and the shelf has a molded in collar rest for rifles so I can set it in the rest muzzle towards the floor and it sits in there fine.
Besides that, my tac light is on the left hand side so I never lay it on that side it always lays on the right hand side.
So no that shouldn't be an issue!
I think having the rds canted may actually work better than having it on top, I can keep a cheek weld and use the rds with my left eye!

When you guys say "Mag Snag", do mean when the round loads incorrectly, nose tip up? Or something else?
I did a search this time, honest ... but there were something like 20 threads and over a hundred pages to read through so I thought I'd just ask.

Squires,
Correct, when the round tries to chamber nose up and the rim is stuck in the front of the mag lips (prevalent on Rev 1 mags)

Speaking of adding to the sticky....
Bret248,
Whatever happened to that ejector fix vid? I thought you added it to the vid series?

I did not shoot the ejector fix vid so I didn't add it to my sticky, I can add it, but would like to ask the person who made the video if I have permission to do so, first.
Brett,
What do you want me to add to the sticky?
