Thats odd, I have a DUU serial that I bought about 6 weeks ago and made 2 months ago. And I have a later serial than you do on a MOE version that was just bought this month.

Hmm seems I must have grabbed my rifle litteraly as it came off the delivery truck, before they had time to cycle through the older stock in the back storage room.

I have a DUL that is currently awaiting a shipping label to go back to S&W due to multiple fte's. Went to the range this past Thursday and shot about 300 rounds and had 4 to 5 fte's every mag including one that was slammed long ways into the polymer of the upper that made a nice gouge in it. My friend also has a MOE serial #DUL and he had the same problem and sent his in. He got it back Monday and had not a single issue so I'm hopeful I'll have the same results once it's returned.

Default serial number

hello I am new to the forum and first off I would like to thank all of the posters on this forum for making my decision to buy the M&P-15-22 so much easier. I just bought mine 3 days ago and have been scouring the forums for ideas on how to set it up as well as general information on the rifle and all of the posts have been a great help.

so I bought the plain barrel (no flash suppressor) model and the serial number on mine starts out

DUR66XX

I have not shot it yet but will do so in the next day or two, I have a box of CCI mini mags that I will try.

is it safe to say by now that all threaded barrel models have at least blue springs? can we go one further and say all threaded barrel models no longer have the out of battery firing and other misfire issues?

I picked up my DTZ two weeks ago and it has blue springs, a threaded barrel and a labeled magazine, but it still has the old manual (Dec 09 instead of Apr 10). I'm not sure if the latest revision of the manual was just to correct the safety instructions or if they changed something in the gun too. So there are DT models with threaded barrels still out there that may not be the latest spec.

I think this is the one time, as a shooter in the UK, I'm glad that I live in the UK. Over here every new firearm bought or sold has to have gone through a proof house and the likelihood is any weakness will be found before it reaches the customer. On the other hand it probably accounts for some of the high prices we have to pay.

Why not break the rifle down and do a quick check before buying it? As it literally takes just a few seconds. This way you are 100% sure either way. Personaly If I buy a new one Id ask to look at the rilfe BEFORE any paperwork is done, check the blue springs AND see if its one of the newest serials DUU.

If not you may as well get the rifle you are going to be satisfied with. If that means looking at a few to get the newest serial number you can, whats the hurt in doing so. YOU are the customer, and should be allowed to buy THE gun you want. Not just any serial they happen to "get rid of". But any thing close to that DUU serial range will be fine.

Im NOT saying the others are bad, Im just informing you of the newest serials/models out as of now. I wasnt aware of the serials when I bought mine, and got lucky to get a DUU3XXX model rifle. Made in last days of June this year. congrats on the future purchase!

well, it would be an online purchase only because i dont feel like paying the full $530 retail that everyone local is charging. I know that it is the threaded barrel version, manuf.# 811033. are all the threaded barrel models good to go? i haven't heard anyone specifically say yes or no yet, but the major underlying assumption is that the new ones were all corrected

Short answer is no one really knows if all the ones for sale now are the "new specs". There could be, and likely are ones left over still in backroom/warehouse stock piles that are the old non blue spring models. I remember reading a post on here, not to long back where some one had a threaded barrel rifle, and he had to send it back. Im not sure but I think it "may" have been a DTZ serial. But either way Im sure it was a threaded barrel that was being sent back to S&W.

Perfect example. Here is a DTX rifle.. obviously in the series before the DTZ rifles. Seems those DT models were the most problematic, for example.

So I guess this DOES put an end to the question of are "all threaded barrels good to go, even with the newest blue springs". But the springs were not all that were "corrected". As the rotating extractor pin was also adressed in the newer serial model rifles.

thats odd, i wonder what they can even replace if it has a blue spring already? unless somehow it never got the the non-rotating extractor or different bolt. he doesn't specifically say what is wrong with it though.

This is true, he doesnt say what was wrong. But it did have the blue springs, and still failed. Most likely it was the pin as that seemed to be a problem for the DT rifles as well. However this does answer your question of are all threaded barrels "corrected".

I've had my DTH for just short of a year and after several thousand rounds it's not given one bit of problems. I run it through the LE rifle/carbine tactical course at the department range alongside the .223's and it functions just fine.

I still Say I got lucky when I bought my 15 22. The reason is this rifle for example. You have a DUR5 serial SKU# 811033 and just got it today. Where as I bought my rifle mid July and its a DUU3 serial with the same SKU# (with a June-28-2010 mfg date). I must have gotten mine litteraly within minutes as it came off the delivery truck, and they didnt have time to put it in the back to sale the older serials yet.

Any way congrats on finally getting your 15 22. Hopefully all the threads you started and got relpies to, help you in any issues/questions you have about your rifle. Glad it all worked out for you man. Now to get to the fun stuff.. adding all those accessories to it, and then test firing. Also..BE SURE to clean it from end to end, bore inlcuded.. BEFORE firing the first shots. As they are packed with a grease to prevent corrosion during shipping, and wait time untill its purchased. Congrats again man. I know the great feeling of FINALLY getting the rifle in your hands!

LOL, You answered my next post about all the grease. I felt like i was playing in Crisco when i first picked it up. Whats good to use on the exterior for cleaning?

And thank for everyone's help. People say i talk about the rifle like i made it and now they want one!

I'm starting to have more problems with my DTZ after 500 rounds. I'm getting more FTEs (mostly stovepipes) and occasional FTFs where the cartridge isn't loaded all the way and the bolt is half open. If I pull the bolt back, the original cartridge remains half loaded so if i release the bolt it will try to double feed. Extractor is not missing and I haven't had any OOB firing (yet).

I've been using Federal 525 primarily, but try more Winchester to see if that makes a diff. Loading the magazines doesn't seem to be an issue (cartridges are staggered fine) but I did get a new magazine and some magazines seem to run through fine so next time I'll see if it's related to that. I also don't recall cleaning the feed ramp before so I've given that a good cleaning and will see how it goes.

i bought a threaded barrell version on 9/11/10 and it has not received the blue springs and came with the older version magazine with just 22lr on it. I haven't had a chance to get a range yet, supposed to go tomorrow. DTU serial number.

The DT series was the first run of the 15 22 rifles back in what.. early/mid 2009? maybe.. cant remember. Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones that doesnt have the ejector break off and fly out, or have the OOB issues. Not every DT rifle was bad, many are still going strong today. But they had the lions share of the problems when it came to the 15 22 in total. I know MANY DT owners will tell you to swap out those trigger springs for the J&P ones. But If you do have any problems,S&W will make it right, so just go have fun. If it does happen, just know they will fix it for free. Too bad they wont swap out the first gen mags for the new ones with less feed issues.

I called S&W customer service. I gave them my DUU3XXX serial number and was told my rifle was made June 28 2010, not bad seeing how I bought it in mid July.

Hi everyone. First post here but have been lurking for a little while now. I feel like I practically know you all! I've been slowly saving up for a 15-22. I just had a baby boy so I've been cautious about how much I set aside, but found out yesterday I'm getting a nice bonus at work. So right after work I stopped by my local gun store and picked up my new 15-22.

The store had two 15-22s on display and both were DTUs. They were both a bit dusty and I was hoping those had just been sitting there for a while and weren't actually sold to customers. I got excited when the clerk said she would grab a new one from the safe. Unfortunately the one she handed me was a DTU 99xx as well. I cracked open the upper right there and noticed no blue springs. I'll cross my fingers and hope I don't have any issues with it. Of course I'll just send it back to S&W if I do. Since I'm in NY, I wonder if the "compliant" model inventory doesn't move as fast as the standard models in other states.

Anyway, no sense in posting a stock gun photo. So I'll wait until I get some goodies added to it. Thanks to everyone for your info and pictures. You all have been a great resource. This gun looks like it'll be a blast! (no pun intended Now I'm off to shop for accessories!

-Ken

Don't think it would be 9999 becuase then we would start hearing about DUV type serial numbers. We may have a little ways to go in the DUU series, and yes you have too much time on your hands.
