Default M&P 15-22 Suppressor?

I'm new to this community and just wanted to say hello. I'm planning on purchasing a TAC65 suppressor for this rifle, except that I'm not familiar with threading or what not. If I was to have the barrel threaded where would I go to do that? And to what specifications? If you know any other good suppressors please do encourage me.

I've also heard of barrel adapters that you wont have to thread your barrel. How does that work? Thanks!

Hi there, welcome aboard!
If you want to have the barrel threaded, you will need to find a good reputable gunsmith in your area that can do it, as far as cost goes, well, I have heard just the threading job is going from $50-$150.

ALSO, the alternative is the barrel adapter that you mentioned.
Click on this link, and scroll to the bottom of the page, and you will see it. Another guy here has one on his, and I think it looks pretty good. Just scroll down a little and you will see it.

As far as what suppressor to use, I am not sure myself, but I did see this one, pretty in-expensive. Don't for get, you need a crush washer also, I think that's what it is called.
Hope this gets you in the right direction!

He means a Sound Suppressor not a Flash Suppressor, and there is none that are "cheap" I wasn't aware of the Tac65, the price doesn't look bad, but also know there's another $200 on top of that for the BATFE Tax Stamp in the US. You will want to have your barrel threaded, not use an adapter for this. Talk to BeltFed here on the forums, he offers a barrel threading service.

As for other supressors, Gemtech also makes the Outback II which is very nice, but it's a little higher priced than the Tac65.

The more I read up on the Tac 65 it looks like a great bargain. It doesn't have hard threads but like they say on the page, the end caps are replaceable so in the even you wear out the threads, they can be replaced. Hm mm... $249 + 200 hmmmm.. I might get one of these

Silencer or moderator, is the legal definition.

You can get a M16A1 (birdcage) suppressor (AKA flash suppressor) on the M&P15-22 for an extra $20 with the right model. Standard M16 threads and will accept the same silencer as the M16/M4..

A suppressor, sound suppressor, sound moderator, or silencer, is a device either attached to or part of the barrel of a firearm to reduce the amount of noise and flash generated by firing the weapon. Although suppressors are popularly known as silencers, no suppressor completely eliminates the noise of discharging a firearm.[1]

It generally takes the form of a cylindrically shaped metal tube with various internal mechanisms to reduce the sound of firing by slowing the escaping propellant gas and sometimes by reducing the velocity of the bullet.[1][2]

well actually a form 1 which is what he will have to fill out to own it calls it a suppressor or muffler.... you should know that having a 16" barrel is a disadvantage to getting a gun quiet..
hv ammo will break the S.B. and you will hear the sonic boom which is almost as loud as a 22 rifle... you will have to shoot sub sonic ammo to get the effect your looking for.. we just got a yhm maxim 22 suppressor, came in yesterday that belongs to john personally.. (about 4 months turn around on the batf tax stamp) and its quiet and is offset so you can put it on a pistol and still see your sights..

you may wanna look at a few heads up comps. of the tac65 and others they are not as quiet as some of the others.. but if your never standing next 2 of them youll never know...

Tactical Innovation's web site says 30-45 days for the BATFE paperwork. Is it really four months?

You know I keep kicking this around I really do want one for reasons other than "OMG it's a Silencer" but I just don't know if it's worth my time and effort...

its no big deal i just filled out 2 sets of form 1s and they will be sent off monday for 2 suppressors for myself.. i will just forget about it and when they come back they come back... no biggy... i would have had them gone today but the sheriff was out of town.. he has to sign them..

its getting faster every time we send someones off.. this time last year it took 7 months to get them back and you might get lucky and get yours back in 45 days.. but i wouldnt count on it.. if you want one id suggest biting the bullet and doing it... if i was older and could have bought a transferable m16 in 85 for 1300 bucks it would be worth 25000 today... a suppressor is as close as ill get to owning something like that cause the old lady would never go for 25000 option

I'm about 90% decided to get one. It will be for popping caps in the back yard. I don't need a $High ultra-whisper..... just one to keep the noise down to where the neighbors can't hear it in their house.

What is a decent can that doesn't require mortgaging the house and ammo that will still cycle in the 15-22?

I need to first see if my Local Sheriff will sign off, because if they won't, it don't matter.... If the Sheriff is a go, then I will do the form. At what point do you actually order the suppressor? After the paperwork comes back from BATFE? I thought you had to provide the SN of the weapon or suppressor.

you need to find a class 2/ class 3 dealer in your area.. if they have what you want instock then all you need to do is fill out a form 1 on that suppressor then take it to your highest ranking offical i believe is how it words it.. could be cheif of police and could be a sheriff.. have them sign it and do the fingerprinting.. add the 200 dollar postal money order to the paper work and send it to the address on the form.. your dealer will help walk you threw it.. then when your stamp comes back.. your dealer will place the can in your hands and its yours... its simple and will take you longer to drive to the sheriff department than to complete the forms...

Thanks Brett!

There's a local Class III I am going to stop in and talk to him. I doubt he stocks the item but can order it.

but the phantom 556 will screw on your bushmaster also...

Right. Thats why I was asking about ammo that would still cycle the 15-22. Was wondering what SS would? No sense spending money to have a quiet rifle that won't cycle... I'd be cussing loud enough to wake the neighbors so I wouldn't need a suppressor for the rifle

Phantom looks like it slips over the barrel quite a bit? Or is that that a SBR in the pic?

After all legal requirements are met , put your silencer on a bolt action and shoot sub sonics if you don't want your neighbors to be alarmed . Most towns , cities , and counties have a law against discharging fireamrms within certain distances of dwellings so if you thought you could have fun ....? Life is hard and then you die .

D'oh! You will have to forgive me, I am from California, and a real suppressor is illegal here, so, that's what I thought he meant by a suppressor, was a flash suppressor,. Sorry!

Thanks for all the input guys. Where do you aqcuire these forms? Does it have to be the local sheriff or can it be anyone in the police force? Lots of guys in my unit are officers in their civilian world.

if you are buying a suppressor then the transfer is done on a form 4.. if your building your own then you have to file a form 1 then wait on approval then build it.. which is what im doing, granded that they approve my paper work... sorry for the confusion..

the sign. you need is the highest ranking law enforcement officer in your area in some places this is the chief of police, here its the sheriff
